Main duties of the job
* Examine, investigate, treat, and refer patients presenting to the ED.
* Oversee junior doctors (F1, F2, ST VTS) and allied health professionals, ensuring standards are maintained.
* Ensure appropriate breaks for all medical staff during shifts.
* Conduct on-floor teaching for medical and nursing students, junior staff.
* Participate in departmental audits and quality improvement projects.

Job responsibilities
* Provide excellent clinical care for ED patients, maintaining operational standards.
* Manage initial assessment, treatment, and referral of patients.
* Review and follow-up on patients initially assessed or handed over.
* Offer clinical advice and support to junior clinicians and nurses, prioritizing patient care.
* Lead the Trauma Team during activations.
* Lead cardiac arrest responses in the ED.
* Respond to major incidents per the Trust's plan.
* Manage floor operations with the Nursing Shift Leader, including staff deployment.
* Communicate effectively with patients, carers, GPs, and document clinical coding.
* Coordinate with various departments and community services.
* Review pathology and imaging reports, initiating appropriate actions.
* Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, risk management, and incident investigations.
* Engage in departmental teaching activities.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS / MBChB or equivalent
* ALS/ACLS or arranged course
* ATLS/APLS/PALS/EPLS certification
* Minimum 4 years' postgraduate experience in senior SASG role (or 3 years in junior SASG role)
* Experience within UK NHS or equivalent healthcare system
* At least 2 years NHS experience at SHO level or higher
* MRCEM or equivalent
* Any FRCEM exams
* Emergency Medicine Specialty Training from another country
