We have an exciting opportunity to join our project support team, supporting and serving our clinical partners throughout the South West Peninsula.

This is an opportunity to utilise your existing experience and develop your knowledge and skills working within a progressive Peninsula Pathology Network helping to improve and transform the delivery of Pathology.

The NHS has embarked upon an ambitious modernisation programme with a key objective to improve its service to patients. At UHP this programme is underpinned by Trust-wide Information Technology projects involving Pathology.

This is an exciting time for Pathology in Plymouth where we are in the process of upgrading our current laboratory information management system to an electronic patient record (EPR).

You will be educated to degree level or hold equivalent relevant experience and be self-motivated with excellent communication skills.

You will provide comprehensive IT project support to the departmental discipline leads specifically on the implementation & delivery of EPIC Beaker, the Pathology module of the EPR project and other important IT related projects as required.

Responsibilities include:

* Managing and controlling the scope of projects in a fast-changing health environment
* Co-ordination and motivation of a multi-disciplinary project team, including clinicians, nursing staff, support staff, voluntary workers, suppliers, IT experts, and contractors
* Adherence to NHS Policies and Protocol
* Provide comprehensive Management and Project Support for three departments with 240 staff
* Manage the workload ensuring effective use of resources, producing work of the highest standard, whilst meeting deadlines
* Support the delivery of IT projects for Pathology within the Plymouth Health Community
* Complete project documentation to support validation and verification of IT systems throughout the project timelines
* Managing and delivering projects and project stages with conflicting and competing pressures on the workload and the team including dealing with the mixed expectations of customers
* Dealing with cultural change in terms of presenting positively the benefits and risks to the customers, especially when the change is viewed as being enforced
* Achieving task delivery using personnel not under your direct management
* Ensuring suppliers meet agreed targets and milestones

Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

It is the responsibility of the post-holder to use their skills, experience and subject matter expertise to implement, deliver and review projects after implementation against stated benefits.

Projects are undertaken in a structured manner in accordance with Pathology Project Management procedures, standards and Prince 2 methodology and cover a wide range of disciplines including but not restricted to: Clinical systems; Business systems; Infrastructure, and Telecommunications.

Project Management

Project Delivery

* Initiate projects as directed by the Pathology IT Manager or departmental operations manager and assess them for feasibility
* Identify, analyse and document the project requirements with the clients and undertake an impact analysis to feed into service changes required after project delivery
* Provide managerial and project support to the Pathology Management and departmental Operations Managers
* Compile and distribute the agenda for relevant project meetings, to take and distribute minutes at these meetings
* To liaise with other departments and parts of the organisation, following up information and gathering data as needed
* To produce high-quality word-processed letters, reports and other documents as required
* Liaise with Project Managers and Financial Accountants to maintain a record for all capital expenditure
* Identify, in conjunction with customers, the benefits to be realised by meeting the project requirements and the key success factors to be used to measure the project
* Establish, manage, and communicate project plans ensuring all stakeholders understand deliverables and progress
* Manage a number of concurrent projects or act as stage manager for larger projects, as assigned by the Pathology IT Manager or departmental Operations Manager, in a variety of customer areas across different disciplines, ensuring effective and regular communication at all levels with all interested parties
* Meet defined project management standards as defined by Pathology IT Manager or departmental Operations Managers and work with PMO to ensure that these standards are met
* Maintain project plans and documentation ensuring that information that feeds into PMO reporting is accurate and timely
* Co-ordinate and manage internal and external parties to ensure their effective involvement in change management, delivery, and ongoing service, according to policy of the customer organisations

Qualifications

* Educated to Degree level or equivalent relevant demonstrable experience
* Prince 2 Foundation


Knowledge and Experience

* Proven relevant demonstrable experience in health service or other customer service-oriented organisation.
* Proven demonstrable experience in organising, prioritising and planning multiple tasks and associated workloads, with the objective of meeting deadlines.
* Demonstrable experience in the administration of an IT system
* Demonstrable health information experience.
* Demonstrable effective user of MS/Office suite.
* Demonstrable excellent verbal, including strong presentation skills, written and interpersonal skills in order to communicate effectively.
