We are seeking a commercially astute and operationally driven General Manager of Transport to report straight into our Transport Director and to support our transport function across all ATL sites. This is a strategic leadership role responsible for delivering high-performance transport operations that are efficient, compliant, customer-focused, and cost-effective.

As General Manager of Transport, you will help shape and deliver ATL's transport strategy, ensuring alignment with wider business objectives while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
You will provide strong, visible leadership to the transport team and take full accountability for performance, compliance, financial management, and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
* Develop and implement the overall transport strategy to support business objectives.
* Establish and monitor KPIs to drive operational efficiency and service excellence.
* Lead the adoption of transport technology solutions including routing, planning, and fleet tracking systems.
* Embed a culture of accountability, high performance, and continuous improvement.
Operational Management
* Oversee day-to-day transport operations including scheduling, route planning, and dispatch.
* Ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods in collaboration with logistics and warehouse teams across all ATL sites.
* Optimise fleet utilisation to minimise downtime and maximise productivity.
* Manage third-party logistics providers and subcontractors to ensure quality and performance standards are met.
Financial & Budget Management
* Develop and manage the department budget in line with business objectives.
* Monitor costs and identify opportunities for efficiencies without compromising service quality.
* Produce financial and operational performance reports, including cost analysis and forecasting.
Compliance & Safety
* Ensure full compliance with all relevant transport regulations including DOT requirements, environmental standards, and health & safety legislation.
* Implement and maintain robust safety policies, driver training programmes, and vehicle maintenance protocols.
* Stay ahead of legislative changes and proactively adjust policies and procedures.
Team Leadership & Development
* Lead, mentor, and develop transport managers, supervisors, and operational staff.
* Oversee recruitment, training, and succession planning within the department.
* Conduct performance reviews, providing structured feedback and development pathways.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment between transport operations and wider supply chain activities.
* Partner with sales and customer service teams to deliver against service-level agreements.
* Act as escalation point for transport-related issues, ensuring swift and effective resolution.
Innovation & Sustainability
* Identify and implement best practices in transport optimisation and efficiency.
* Drive sustainability initiatives including route optimisation, fuel efficiency, and transition to greener vehicle technologies.
* Monitor industry developments and apply innovation to enhance operational performance.
About You
* CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Road Haulage (essential).
* Minimum 5 years' experience in transport/logistics management.
* Minimum 5 years in a senior leadership role within transport or supply chain.
* Strong working knowledge of transport legislation and safety compliance.
* Degree in Logistics, Transportation Management, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related discipline.
* Proficient in MS Office and transport management systems.
* Commercially aware with strong analytical and financial acumen.
* Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills.
