Overview

The role is part of a team that carries out checks on individuals and businesses, makes decisions on eligibility, calculates penalties, and conducts ‘Fit and Proper’ tests.
Responsibilities
* Managing a personal caseload of applications and compliance checks.
* Communicating with customers via email, phone, and letter.
* Making informed decisions based on evidence and regulatory guidance.
* Analysing data and applying judgement in ambiguous situations.
* Applying sanctions where necessary and defending decisions when challenged.
* Collaborating with colleagues across HMRC and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Skills
Applicants do not need specific qualifications or prior experience, but you should have:
* Natural inquisitiveness and a drive to identify risks.
* Confidence as a decision‑maker, able to weigh evidence and act with integrity.
* Ability to effectively organise and plan high‑volume workloads.
* Clear and professional communication, both in writing and verbally.
* A passion for solving problems and contributing to a team environment.
* Commitment to learning and development.
* Security Check vetting clearance at Security Check (SC) level – this is essential.

* Annual salary of £31,096, with HMRC contributing £9,008 towards the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
