Maintenance Technician: Electrical

As Maintenance Electrical Technician you will be an essential part of our Operational Estates Team.
The Estates department is fast‑paced and exciting, with new challenges and opportunities arising every day.
Working closely with the Estates Officer for Operations you will plan and carry out engineering/building maintenance programmes to help achieve compliance with legislative and performance standards.
You will undertake work as identified on allocated work orders, such as carrying out inspections, tests, repairs and installations on Trust property, plant and infrastructure. You will also need to update the Trust CAFM system in an informative and timely manner.
You’ll be involved in the day‑to‑day reactive maintenance service, ensuring that we are providing an efficient and patient‑focused service to the Trust.
To be effective in this role, you need to be a great team player, be flexible, able to stay calm under pressure and have excellent communication skills to effectively carry out demanding maintenance duties and investigative processes.
Main duties of the job
* Carry out inspections, tests, repairs, installations on Trust property and infrastructure.
* Work on allocated works dockets, completing the works and updating the Trust CAFM system in a timely manner.
* Organise and coordinate own workload, and manage assigned craftspersons workload.
* Report faults identified when carrying out routine checks / Planned Preventive Maintenance or in the course of the working day.
* Undertake planned preventive maintenance checks and complete report sheets in accordance with trust procedures and policies.
* Identify parts and/or equipment required to carry out designated work and use Estates Stores system to obtain required items in accordance with Trust Standing Financial Instructions.
* Investigate technical failures and identify the appropriate permanent repair required to ensure ongoing reliability and statutory compliance.
* Be part of the Estates escalation process, and assist other estate staff at all levels with technical works and technical problem solving where requested.
* Carry out internal audits of Estates team work and practice.
* Assist with the set‑up and implementation/management of the Estates safe systems of work (e.g. Permit to Work, isolation procedures) for Trust staff and external contractors, to ensure all work is carried out using safe systems of work and controlled to minimise risk to staff, patients, visitors and contractors.
* Manage and supervise specialist subcontractors as directed by Estates Officer (Operations).
Qualifications & Training
* Recognised and registered EITB, City & Guilds, modern apprenticeship, NVQ level 4 or approved equivalent training in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering.
* Demonstrable in‑depth knowledge and experience within the required technical disciplines (Installation, Testing & Inspection, Emergency lighting, Nurse call, Access systems) etc.
Knowledge & Experience
* Knowledge of maintenance methodologies.
* Specialist knowledge gained from working in a health care engineering environment or prepared to work towards gaining multi‑skilled in Electrical, Mechanical or Building Trades.
