Job Role: Lead/Principal Hardware & Firmware Engineer
Work pattern: Hybrid, at least 2-3 days/week working in our Warwick office
Salary: £65,000 - £75,000 per annum

Overview:
We are looking for a talented and experienced Lead/Principal Hardware & Firmware Engineer to work on hardware and embedded software for their exciting range of measurement products. You will be part of a strong research and development team including electronics hardware, embedded software, cloud & backend software, and mobile app development. Your work will be crucial to the success of current and future products in the marketplace. You will have the opportunity to lead the hardware/firmware team and manage their work packages. While this role is technical initially, it could develop into a line management role for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Architect and design robust products from concepts and specifications, aligning with requirements and bringing innovative solutions to complex problems.
2. Technically lead and mentor a small team, providing hands-on development and support.
3. Oversee PCB design and layout, ensuring best practices and high-quality results.
4. Define and specify test plans for hardware verification and production testing.
5. Identify and implement improvements to test and diagnostic processes.
6. Support environmental and EMC testing during qualification.
7. Perform and oversee circuit analysis including power, tolerance, and reliability.
8. Capture design requirements collaboratively with other teams.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Proven record of delivering digital electronics designs from architecture to production, preferably with battery-powered, MCU-based applications.
* Technical fluency in hardware, firmware, and manufacturing engineering.
* Oversight of PCB design & layout.
* Good understanding of embedded C for microcontrollers.
* Familiarity with interface buses such as SPI, I2C, UART, & USB.
* Product development knowledge regarding DFx (design for safety, testability, manufacturability).
* Knowledge of test & verification techniques supporting product lifecycle development.
* Experience managing a small team or work packages is highly desirable.
* Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
* Full product lifecycle development & management.
* Experience with environmental and EMC testing during qualification.
* Production test development & operation.
* Experience with battery-powered Bluetooth or Wi-Fi devices.
* Some analogue electronics design experience.
* Experience in smaller company or start-up environments with broader responsibilities.
* Fluency in firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing engineering.
* Experience with certification processes (CE and FCC).
