Assistant Operations Manager
Contract: Essex Highways
Location: Chelmsford, CM2
Contract Type: Permanent
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will play a key role in delivering highway maintenance services across Essex. You'll help manage day-to-day operations, ensuring services are delivered efficiently, professionally, and in line with current legislation and best practice.
Working within the Maintenance and Operations team, which combines in-house expertise with support from approved supply chain partners, you'll collaborate with a range of stakeholders including Councillors, engineers, HR, and the public.
You’ll also support the Operations Manager in depot management, lead the operational and office teams, and ensure the effective use of fleet, plant, and materials to deliver the lighting service.
The Role
1. Support the Operations Manager in leading the Lighting team and supply chain partners to deliver programmes and a 24/7 emergency response service, on time, within budget, and to required standards.
2. Assist with the management and upkeep of depots and offices, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, policies, and standards.
3. Ensure maintenance programmes are delivered efficiently, on budget, on schedule, and to the expected quality.
4. Supervise on-site operational teams, ensuring work meets agreed standards, procedures are followed, and quality is maintained through regular site checks.
5. Promote and enforce Health & Safety compliance by applying ECC, Ringway Jacobs, and Essex Highways policies through relevant management systems and CDM responsibilities.
About You
6. ONC or equivalent qualification in related subject or proven experience.
7. Experience and understanding of managing and implementing Health and Safety standards within a civil engineering service discipline.
8. A comprehensive understanding of highway maintenance works and knowledge of relevant codes of practice.
9. Current valid driving licence.
10. SSSTS / SMSTS.
