Meet the team behind this journey
You will be joining the CAST (Convert and Scale) track, a division of our business that has recently seen increased strategic investment and realignment. You will lead the Identity and Access team, a core platform team responsible for building and scaling the services that power our entire customer ecosystem.
This team’s domain is central to our business, covering everything from Single Sign-On (SSO) and account management to identity provider (IDP) integration, logins, and session management. As a platform team, your primary customers are other engineering teams at DeepL. You will partner closely with a Technical Product Manager and collaborate with teams like Account and Team Experience and Business Platform to deliver foundational features that enable a secure, scalable, and frictionless experience for all DeepL users.
Your Responsibilities
* People Leadership: Lead, mentor, and grow a talented, UK‑based distributed team of 7 senior and intermediate engineers. You will be responsible for their well‑being and growth through regular 1:1s, continuous feedback, performance reviews, and dedicated career development coaching.
* Execution & Delivery: Own the team's execution and delivery, establishing a predictable cadence using agile methodologies. You will partner with your Technical Product Manager to define, refine, and deliver the quarterly roadmap, ensuring the team's work aligns with strategic business goals.
* Technical Guidance: Act as the team's technical steward. While this is a 0‑10% hands‑on coding role, your strong engineering background is crucial. You will guide architectural discussions, review system designs, and uphold high standards for quality, scalability, security, and other non‑functional requirements.
* Project & Strategic Ownership: Take ownership of the team's strategic bets. Your first key projects will include delivering our SCIM (System for Cross‑domain Identity Management) rollout and device‑based authentication, both critical for our enterprise customers.
* Stakeholder Management: Serve as the team's primary representative in planning and technical discussions. You will clearly articulate technical trade‑offs and build strong relationships with stakeholders across product, engineering, and the wider business.
