Instrumentation Group Lead - Bristol, UK
About The Role
Bristol (hybrid working)
A career that will deliver change. Together, we’ll help Britain achieve Net Zero.
Are you ready to lead a team at the forefront of nuclear innovation? As our Instrumentation Group Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of clean energy by guiding a team of talented engineers and technical leads. This is your chance to make a real impact on major UK infrastructure projects while developing your leadership in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
The Opportunity
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.
EPR-E is a joint venture between EDF and Framatome, established in 2018 to lead the design and realisation of nuclear islands for new projects in France and worldwide. As Instrumentation Group Lead, you’ll be instrumental in delivering the nuclear island for Hinkley Point C and preparing for Sizewell C, working at the heart of one of the UK’s most ambitious energy programmes.
Pay, Benefits & Culture
The salary range associated with this role is competitive (grade C), dependent on experience. We offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme, and a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle. We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.
Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.
We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.
We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. We understand that success means different things to different people. We believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.
What You’ll Be Doing
Based in our Bristol office, with occasional travel to France, you’ll lead a specialist team of engineers and technical leads, ensuring the delivery of high-quality instrumentation design and documentation for the Hinkley Point C project. You’ll work closely with the Electrical Design Manager and the wider discipline leadership to ensure alignment with project goals and technical standards.
Your role will involve overseeing supplier contracts, managing the design and integration of process sensors and instrumentation, and ensuring seamless collaboration across engineering disciplines. You’ll be the key point of contact for site feedback, ensuring that evolving requirements are reflected in your team’s outputs.
Beyond technical leadership, you’ll be responsible for planning, quality assurance, and team development. You’ll champion nuclear safety culture, support knowledge sharing, and represent the department in high-level discussions with stakeholders across the UK and France. This is a role for someone who thrives on responsibility, influence, and the opportunity to shape the future of nuclear engineering.
Who You Are
You’ll have a strong background in electrical engineering, ideally within the nuclear sector. You’ve led teams before and know how to balance workloads, manage deadlines, and inspire those around you to deliver their best.
You’re a confident communicator, comfortable working with colleagues across borders and disciplines. You’re proactive, collaborative, and always looking for ways to improve how things are done. Experience with EPR systems, instrumentation and control, or UK nuclear licensing is a bonus—but your ability to lead, adapt, and deliver is what really sets you apart.
You understand the importance of diversity, inclusion, and safety in the workplace, and you’re ready to be a role model for others in the team.
Applications close for this role on Monday 1st September, with interviews following shortly after.
