Job Description:
Description
Define, architect, design, develop, document, and test FPGA firmware as part of our 20-strong firmware engineering team within the Communication Systems Business Unit. We deliver multiple concurrent research, development, and production programs ranging from tens of thousands to several million pounds.
Responsibilities
* Perform requirements analysis, deriving requirements from system level to firmware level and architecture.
* Apply best practices to FPGA firmware design under the guidance of the lead firmware engineer.
* Implement FPGA firmware modules, ensuring adherence to project requirements and group policies for reuse, standards, and security.
* Develop firmware test specifications, including module and full FPGA design tests.
* Ensure test procedures are compatible with project and continuous integration systems.
* Engage in integration activities with software and hardware domains.
* Propose improvements to tools, processes, and techniques to enhance quality and efficiency.
* Contribute to project goals, balancing requirements, schedule, and cost.
* Participate in customer meetings through documentation, presentations, and discussions.
* Estimate effort and manage time to meet cost and schedule targets.
* Review technical proposals and assist in effort, cost, and risk estimation for bids.
* Manage information security compliance as per the Security Manual.
Role Requirements
* Willing and able to obtain and maintain SC and DV security clearances.
Qualifications / Skills
* Essential:
o Degree in engineering, mathematics, or science, or equivalent experience.
o Experience in FPGA module design and implementation.
o Proficiency with Xilinx, Lattice, Altera, or Microsemi FPGA tools.
o Experience with FPGA firmware testing and design for test.
o Ability to interpret hardware schematics.
o Experience with version control and bug tracking systems.
* Desirable:
o Experience with firmware development lifecycles and best practices.
o Knowledge of continuous integration and automated testing frameworks.
o Familiarity with standards such as MISRA for defense or aerospace.
o Experience with DOORS and Enterprise Architect tools.
