The Role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the full lifecycle of mechanical subassemblies - from initial concept through detailed design, validation, and integration. You’ll take full ownership of complex design work within multidisciplinary projects or subassemblies, ensuring robustness, manufacturability, and traceability throughout.
You’ll be the go-to expert in SolidWorks, also working with PDM to manage revisions and documentation. Strong analytical ability and experience in stress analysis and FEA are essential, as you’ll ensure every design meets performance and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce high-quality CAD models, detailed drawings, and design documentation in SolidWorks
* Manage version control and documentation using SolidWorks PDM
* Perform (basic) stress analysis, tolerance studies, and FEA to validate designs
* Design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA) using CNC, fabricated, and printed parts
* Own subassembly designs from concept through prototype, testing, and production release
* Support prototype builds, integration, and testing, ensuring design intent is maintained
* Collaborate with team members on system integration
* Contribute to material selection, sealing, and durability optimisation
* Mentor junior engineers and support continuous improvement across the team
Skills & Experience
Required:
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
* Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience in complex assemblies or vehicles
* Expert user of SolidWorks, with experience managing projects through PDM systems
* Experience in stress analysis and FEA (SolidWorks Simulation or equivalent)
* Strong understanding of materials, tolerancing, and manufacturing processes
* Experience taking ownership of subassemblies from concept to release
* Confident producing detailed drawings and documentation to engineering standards
* Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
* Experience with tracked or wheeled vehicle systems
* Exposure to suspension, drivetrain, or structural systems
* Knowledge of IP-rated or ruggedised designs
* Familiarity with fabrication, welding, and CNC machining
* Experience working to ISO or defence-quality frameworks
* Ability to mentor others and manage design tasks independently
