Post: Compass Medical Practice Prescription Clerk
Pay: £12.60 per hour
Hours: 6 hours per week (core prescription telephone hours 10:00 14:30)

Overview of Role:
Compass Medical Practice is a virtual GP Practice for patients who have been removed from mainstream GP practices as they are deemed difficult to doctor. The practice covers a wide geographical area which incorporates Lancashire, Cumbria and parts of Merseyside. Patient consultations take place by telephone /video link and if a face-to-face consultation is required, the appointment is undertaken within a clinical space within the patients community or the bespoke Compass Medical Practice clinical van. A risk assessment is undertaken prior to all face-to-face appointments and there is a minimum of one patient liaison officer present for each appointment.
Compass Medical Practice is evolving and currently includes wider services e.g. Thornton House. There are aspirations to become a wider Inclusion Health GP Practice.

Main duties of the job
The role of the prescription clerk is to work closely with the clinical and duty team to ensure the safe prescribing of medications. The prescription clerk is the main telephone handler for all medication requests that come via the patient into the practice. The prescription clerk will be dealing with queries and repeat prescription requests, received (via the telephone and electronically) and ensuring that all current medication has relevant and current authorisations.

Job responsibilities
Day to Day Duties to include, but not exhaustive:
Be responsible for the effective management of medication requests.
Ensure effective systems, processes and practices are in place to provide a safe and effective service.
Participate in the production of activity reports to support management decision making.
Process repeat prescription requests, from EMIS that are authorised by the GP and NMP.
Process repeat prescriptions, received on-line, in writing or via phone on a daily basis, in-line with the prescribing protocol.
Assist with any prescription queries.
Deal with any medication changes from all clinical letters and consultations.
Remove obsolete medications.
Monitor specific drugs for overuse and report relevant findings to the clinical manager.
Undertake medication audits including collating the monthly drug recharge data.
Maintain accurate records.
Stay up to date with the ICB Formulary.
Distribute the centralised alerts.
Support medication reduction regimes.
Work with the practice support team and the nursing team to meet QOF targets.
Liaise with pharmacies, clinicians, patients and clinical teams to ensure the provision of a safe prescribing service.
Understand the appointment processes and ensure medication reviews are booked in a timely manner e.g. new patients, post hospital medication changes, annual medication reviews and new medications commenced.
Undertake general clerical duties as required.
Participate in the Compass Medical Practice, internal monthly MDT.
Participate in team meetings and training as appropriate.
Collate patient review data in advance of patient review meetings.
Undertake any other duties, as deemed relevant to the post, under the direction of the practice manager and the clinical manager, including cover for staff absence and annual leave.
Support the practice manager / clinical manager in the reviewing and updating of practice policies and procedures and creating processes.
To provide cover for members of the reception team during periods of sickness and annual leave (this may include working until 18.30)
Call taking with patients and professionals.
Complete monthly KPI reports.
Creating letters and templates in EMIS
Any other tasks allocated by the management team.
Work with the Head of Service, the Practice Manager, Clinical Manager and the team, aiming to attain a CQC Outstanding rating for providing an excellent service.
Maintain professional conduct.
The role will include undertaking aspects of the job description for all the services under the Complex Lives Business Unit Umbrella
