Job Overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a Locum Consultant to join our established team of 4.9 WTE Consultant Medical Microbiologists and 3 WTE Specialty Doctors. A Specialty trainee based in Cardiff is periodically attached.
The Executive Board has approved investment into the service, which has a high organisational profile. The Consultant team will increase to 8.9 WTE within the next 3 years, with additional support.
The clinical and laboratory Microbiology service has full UKAS ISO15189 accreditation and is networked to provide comprehensive microbiology and infection control services.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be based at the Royal Gwent Hospital for microbiology and infection control duties, shared and rotated among 7 Medical Microbiologists.
They will attend meetings and ward visits at other sites within the Health Board.
They will contribute to service redesign in line with the Clinical Futures strategy and Welsh Government policies.
They will provide a comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective microbiology, virology, and infection control service, leading in specified aspects as discussed during service reviews.

This position involves regulated activity with children and adults, as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act. Checks, including barred list checks, will be undertaken following any conditional offer.
