Design Manager / Design Coordinator – Cambridge

Anglian Recruitment is proud to be working with a long-established and highly reputable Building Services contractor as they look to appoint an experienced Design Coordinator / Design Manager to join their Cambridge team.
Our client is a leading full-service provider of Mechanical & Electrical Installation and Maintenance services, operating across the public and private sectors, they deliver high-quality M&E projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Design Manager or a capable Design Coordinator ready to step up to oversee the full MEP design process across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
*
Take responsibility for the development and delivery of MEP design documentation from concept through to completion
*
Establish, agree and monitor design programmes with clients and design consultants
*
Lead and manage external design consultants and internal design teams
*
Review, assess and critique MEP design information throughout all stages
*
Ensure compliance with project briefs, regulations and spatial coordination
*
Attend and lead design coordination meetings, ensuring actions are clear and tracked
*
Manage RFI processes, information flow and design communication
*
Collaborate with subcontractors to incorporate technical design solutions
*
Support pre-construction teams to ensure project budgets and scopes are maintained
*
Undertake occasional minor design tasks to support project managers
*
Ensure coordinated working drawings are delivered for installation
*
Present design information at internal pre-contract meetings
*
Prepare client and project team reports, responding professionally to all correspondence
*
Ensure full adherence to health and safety procedures and design compliance
What We’re Looking For
*
Minimum 5 years’ experience in MEP design or managing the MEP design process
*
Strong understanding of the full Building Services design cycle
*
Proven ability to design mechanical or electrical building services systems (e.g., public health, heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water systems)
*
Degree in Building Services Engineering or working towards a recognised qualification
*
Strong knowledge of BIM Level 2 processes and BIM Execution Plans
*
Understanding of low and zero-carbon technologies
*
Experience with both traditional single-stage and two-stage D&B procurement
*
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
*
Strong communicator with good people management and stakeholder skills
*
Proactive problem-solver capable of working independently and under pressure
*
Solid understanding of health and safety within M&E design and construction
