Job Description:
Civil Design Engineer – Manchester City Centre
A leading UK engineering consultancy is looking for an experienced Civil Design Engineer to join its dynamic Manchester office. With a strong pipeline of infrastructure, commercial and residential projects across the region, this is a great opportunity to step into a key technical role within a growing and forward-thinking team.
We're seeking someone with at least five years civil design experience in a consultancy environment who is confident in leading design packages, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams, and delivering practical, build-able engineering solutions. You’ll be involved in the full project life cycle – from early feasibility and planning to detailed design and delivery – while mentoring junior staff and supporting wider team development.
Day-to-day, you’ll be producing and reviewing calculations, drawings and technical reports, managing elements of highways, drainage, utilities and SUDS designs using a mix of tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or PDS, and Flow or MicroDrainage. You’ll interpret survey and site investigation data, liaise with clients and contractors, and contribute to fee proposals, budgeting, and project planning. A sound working knowledge of relevant UK legislation such as the Highways Act, Water Industry Act, and related codes is essential.
We’re looking for a strong communicator who enjoys working collaboratively across disciplines and is comfortable attending design meetings and representing the business externally. Chartership with ICE (or working towards it) is highly desirable, and you’ll receive full support with structured CPD and mentoring.
In return, you’ll join a company that genuinely values flexibility, professional development and wellbeing. Benefits include hybrid working, the option to buy additional holidays, a cycle-to-work scheme, and regular team social and community events – all part of a people-first culture.
