The Role
The Engineering Manager will work alongside and report into the Chief Engineer. A key element of this role is to ensure the efficient running of the production facility, whilst managing engineering projects and ensuring timelines are adhered to.
Key Responsibilities
* Working closely with the Chief Engineer and other members of the senior engineering management team and supporting and assisting them as and when required.
* Liaising with the production department to maximise production, equipment availability and minimise downtime, with a hands‑on approach and leading by example.
* Helping to ensure that all equipment is maintained and is in good working order.
* Ensuring engineering solutions are put in place to permanently fix breakdowns/failures and that the root cause is identified and addressed.
* Maintaining records.
* Aiding with maintenance of all appropriate accreditations.
* Managing and controlling projects from conception through to production.
* Managing multiple facets of projects simultaneously.
* Ensuring all facets projects are delivered on time and within budget.
* Creating, requesting, and analysing quote and tender submissions.
* Supervising external suppliers and contractors within all site activities and operations to make daily production and maintenance requirements of the factory.
* Managing change requests.
* Investigating problems and/or complaints.
* Assisting with the specification and design of new machinery.
* Coordinating and managing all external Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE) and enabling work suppliers.
* Overseeing the technical delivery of any new equipment installed on site.
* Providing technical support to the production department and to customers.
* Supporting the sites continuous improvement activities.
Desirable Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills And Experience
* Formal engineering qualification to at least City and Guilds level, ONC/HNC level or equivalent or extensive experience working as an engineer in a manufacturing environment.
* A sound knowledge of continuous improvement techniques such as root causes analysis, machinery reliability, maintenance etc.
* Extensive project management experience.
* Knowledge and experience of the machinery in a modern processing plant is essential.
* Management experience is essential.
* Previous experience of food processing equipment is essential.
* Experience of working within a FMCG is essential.
