Overview
Cadent Gas Ltd. Shape the Future of Energy Regulation with Cadent. As the UK’s largest gas distribution network, Cadent is central to the UK’s transition to a cleaner, more resilient energy system. This role offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of that change, shaping the frameworks, policies and regulatory relationships defining the future of gas, biomethane, hydrogen and energy transition. We’re seeking a Head of Future Energy Regulation who is analytically sharp, engaging, influential, and comfortable being the visible face of Cadent across the regulatory landscape. This role suits someone who thrives in high‑impact conversations, builds strong relationships with ease, and enjoys partnering with senior leaders, external stakeholders and customer groups.
This is a position for a strategic communicator, able to translate complex ideas into compelling narratives both in writing and verbally, articulating Cadent’s position confidently and bringing people with us. This is a hybrid role between our head office in Ansty Business Park, Coventry (CV7 9JU) and home working. Regular presence at the Ansty site (2–3 days per week) is required for effectiveness.
Responsibilities
* Shape Cadent’s long‑term approach to future regulation, including regulatory frameworks for price controls, incentives, hydrogen regulation, biomethane, future charging models and whole‑system market design.
* Lead the development and drafting of consultation responses, strategic submissions and regulatory positions that set out Cadent’s thinking with clarity and credibility.
* Monitor emerging trends across energy systems, utilities, competition policy, consumer protection, sustainability regulation and future markets, turning insight into action.
* Lead and engage with Cadent’s Customer Challenge Group to ensure customer perspectives shape our regulatory strategy and decision‑making.
* Create compelling written content, presentations, briefings and external commentary based on a deep understanding of regulatory principles that strengthen Cadent’s profile as a forward‑thinking voice on future energy regulation.
* Represent Cadent in discussions with Ofgem, Government, industry bodies and customer groups. Build trusted relationships and ensure constructive, informed dialogue that supports better outcomes for customers and communities.
Qualifications
* Experience in energy/economic regulation, utilities, infrastructure or similar regulated sectors.
* Strong understanding of market regimes, price controls and incentive frameworks, ideally with experience working with regulators.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, confident engaging senior stakeholders, Boards and regulators.
* Comfortable being outward‑facing, presenting and contributing to external discussions.
* Ability to develop and draft high‑quality regulatory submissions, business plans and thought‑leadership content.
* Creative and analytical thinker who can challenge assumptions and shape new opportunities.
* Degree in economics, social sciences, policy or equivalent experience (desirable).
