Claims Manager - Construction PI

About the Role
The Claims Manager will be responsible for working closely with Members in the handling of professional indemnity claims involving construction professionals. This includes attending meetings, mediations, hearings, and similar proceedings alongside Members and their solicitors, as well as providing advice on liability.
You will join a team of 17 solicitors and legal executives, collectively supporting the Company’s Members in securing appointments on terms within their cover and managing any associated claims.
Key Responsibilities
* Complex Claims Handling: Manage a portfolio of high-value professional liability claims (e.g. design issues, structural failures, breach of contract) and report to the Divisional Director, Head of Claims.
* Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with Members, providing proactive support throughout the claims process.
* Litigation Management: Instruct and oversee approved external legal advisors and experts to develop cost-effective, strategic defences for litigated matters. Attend meetings, mediations, arbitrations, and settlement discussions as required.
* Claims Reserving: Ensure timely and accurate reserving of claims in accordance with the Company’s procedures.
* Financial Control: Manage claim budgets and review and approve invoices and claim payments.
* Investigation & Liability Assessment: Conduct thorough investigations to assess liability at an early stage and provide clear advice to Members.
* Coverage Analysis: Review and interpret policy wording to identify coverage issues, escalating where appropriate to senior leadership.
* Underwriting Support: Provide insight to Underwriting and Actuarial teams on claims trends and emerging risks.

About You
Knowledge & Experience
* Proven experience managing a personal caseload of professional liability or construction-related claims, ideally within a law firm or in-house legal team.
* Strong technical understanding of professional indemnity, policy wording, and negligence principles.
* Good working knowledge of contract law, civil procedure rules, and construction law.
Qualifications
* Legally qualified in the UK (or QLTT) with a minimum of 5 years’ PQE.
