About the role

Our ward, on Gate 38, is a busy 15 bedded unit. We care for a diverse range of patients, primarily with a traumatic orthopaedic injury or attending for a planned elective procedure.
Main duties
Direct patient care
* Assisting with personal care, including hygiene and feeding
* Administering prescribed medications according to trust policy
* Assisting patients with mobility and transfers using equipment
* Performing a range of nursing procedures and treatments
* Managing and treating minor wounds, injuries, and ailments
* Providing end-of-life care
Care planning and coordination
* Assessing patient needs and creating, implementing, and evaluating care plans
* Observing, recording, and reporting patient behavior and progress
* Acting as a primary or named nurse for an allocated group of patients
* Coordinating patient discharge and planning for their needs after leaving the hospital
Health promotion and education
* Providing health education and support to patients and their families
* Advising on health promotion and illness prevention
* Teaching junior staff, students, and unqualified staff
Safety and administration
* Adhering to infection control policies and ensuring correct waste disposal
* Recognizing and responding to emergencies and complex patient situations
* Safeguarding vulnerable individuals and raising concerns when necessary
* Ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, and staff
Teamwork and professional development
* Working effectively within a multidisciplinary team
* Delegating appropriate tasks and supervising other staff, such as healthcare support workers, where applicable
* Developing professional skills and knowledge through continuous learning and clinical audit
Essential person specification requirements
Qualifications:
* NMC UK Registered Nurse.
Experience:
* Caring for orthopaedic patients.
Knowledge & Awareness:
* Up to date knowledge of current nursing issues & practice.
Skills & abilities
* Ability to plan, assess, implement and evaluate patient care.
* Prioritise tasks
* Develop and maintain positive working relationships.
