This is a hands-on leadership role, combining operational management with responsibility for food safety, quality, continuous improvement, and team development. Key Responsibilities Production & Operations Lead all production and co-packing activities on site Plan and manage production schedules to meet customer demand Maximise efficiency, minimise downtime, and improve productivity Oversee labour planning, shift patterns, and workforce requirements Ensure equipment maintenance and identify investment needs Support new product introductions and capacity planning Materials & Inventory Manage raw material planning in line with production needs Maintain accurate stock control (raw materials, WIP, finished goods) Implement FIFO/FEFO and shelf-life management processes Oversee goods-in and supplier quality checks Lead stock counts and resolve discrepancies Quality, Compliance & Food Safety Own and manage all food safety systems (HACCP, TACCP, VACCP) Ensure site is audit-ready and compliant with BRC/SALSA standards Manage customer and third-party audits Oversee allergen control, traceability, and recall procedures Ensure compliance with food labelling and specifications Champion health & safety across the site Continuous Improvement Drive lean manufacturing and waste reduction initiatives Track and improve KPIs (OEE, yield, waste, cost per unit, etc.) Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement Support ERP systems and production planning tools Leadership & Site Management Lead, develop, and motivate production and quality teams Recruit, train, and manage staff performance Build a strong culture of accountability, safety, and quality Oversee site facilities, housekeeping, and security Report performance to senior leadership Commercial & Stakeholder Engagement Liaise with customers on operational performance and service Support costing and feasibility for new business opportunities Work with finance on budgeting and cost control Manage supplier and contractor relationships Collaborate cross-functionally within the wider business Experience Minimum 5 years experience in food manufacturing or production At least 2 years in a leadership or management role Experience in BRC or SALSA environments Strong background in production planning and team management Experience managing audits and customer requirements Skills & Knowledge Strong understanding of HACCP and food safety systems Knowledge of BRC Food Safety standards Experience with allergen management and food labelling Good IT skills (Excel essential; ERP systems desirable) Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement experience Personal Attributes Hands-on leader with a proactive approach Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills High attention to detail, particularly around quality and compliance Able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment Commercially aware and cost-conscious Excellent communicator and team motivator Contact Nicky Strutt
