We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated Radiographers who enjoy the challenges a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) will offer within a friendly multidisciplinary team in a central London location.
St Mary’s Hospital is one of four Major Trauma Centre’s (MTC’s) in the London region with a dedicated Acute Imaging Centre containing a recently upgraded CT scanner and a separate Paediatric A&E.
The post will give you the opportunity to build on your existing clinical skills in all areas of the General Imaging Department including A&E across a range of specialties and developing new skills in CT and Angio. Education and training are key elements of the department.
The Imaging Department at St Mary’s Hospital performs a comprehensive range of procedures over all modalities. Being flexible and innovative in your ways of working will be fundamental to your role and good communication skills are essential. We also teach radiography students from a number of London Universities.

Main duties of the job
1. To carry out radiographic examinations across a range of modalities to the agreed standard of the department.
2. To maintain a high standard of patient care and comfort and be patient focused at all times.
3. To work in an efficient and effective manner at all times.
4. To appear on duty promptly and appropriately dressed and behave in a professional manner at all times.
5. To plan, prioritise and organise own workload within certain clinical areas of the department, e.g. Fluoroscopy, with support from senior colleagues as required.
6. To vet request forms for validity and appropriateness.
7. To determine whether repeat X-rays or extra projections are required.
8. To undertake IV injections in line with departmental policy.

Essential criteria
9. BSc(Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
10. Health and Care Professions Council Registration
11. Commitment to continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
12. Student clinical assessors course
13. College of Radiographers accredited cannulation course
Experience
Essential criteria
14. Up to date knowledge of general imaging techniques
15. Able to work unsupervised
16. Awareness of clinical governance issue in relation to patient care
17. Understanding of factors affecting service throughput and quality
Desirable criteria
18. Previous experience as Senior Band 6 radiographer
19. Portfolio demonstrating ongoing CPD
Skills/knowledge/ abilities
Essential criteria
20. Ability to teach and mentor students, more junior staff and new members of staff
21. Ability to cope with conflict and complaints at local level commensurate with Trust policies
22. Ability to make prompt decisions based on knowledge, experience and circumstances
23. Keep all records up to date in a clear, accurate and concise manner on a day-to-day basis
Desirable criteria
24. Intermediate IT skills.
