Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an existing band 7 or experienced band 6 to join the Critical Care and Surgery Team, based at Nottingham City Hospital. This maternity cover, secondment/fixed term post is a full-time role of 37.5 hours working in a variety of specialities.
We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic individual who is committed to leading on clinical practice, evolving the Occupational Therapy role and developing patient pathways. The successful candidate will be committed to providing high quality care and is required to demonstrate advanced level hyper-acute and acute assessments, interventions including rehabilitation. Stroke and/or neuro experience is essential for this role and experience of critical care is desirable.
The successful candidate will lead and develop the team’s clinical skills, provide strong leadership, teaching and service development. This role provides an excellent opportunity to develop across all pillars of practice whilst working within a supportive and motivated team.
The OT service is part of the Therapies, Outpatients and Phlebotomy Services (TOPS) Directorate, within the Specialist Clinical Services care group. Responsibilities
* Demonstrating advanced level patient assessment and intervention in the relevant areas (including hyper-acute assessments and rehabilitation).
* Promoting a rehabilitative approach across the service.
* Leading and providing clinical support to all members of the team.
* Supporting the team with cognitive assessments and rehabilitation, taking a creative approach for long-stay critical care patients or those with hypoxic brain injury.
* Providing supervision to staff members (including band 6, band 5, support workers and students).
* Undertaking relevant managerial and operational duties while balancing this with clinical tasks.
* Working with Therapy Service Managers and senior OT colleagues to develop the service in line with evidence-based practice.
* Supporting student placements within the team and providing formal and informal training.
* Working as part of the multidisciplinary team in all clinical areas.
* Contributing to the education of the team and wider MDT.
* Ensuring high quality evidence-based practice, service development and education underpin service delivery.
* Embedding NUH’s values and behaviours within everyday practice.

The clinical areas covered in this role include: Cardiac Surgery, Cardiology, Critical Care, Upper GI Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Infectious Diseases, Urology Surgery, Urology Medicine, Colorectal Surgery and Gynaecology Surgery.
Requirements
Essential: advanced level clinical skills in hyper-acute and acute assessments; stroke and/or neuro experience; commitment to leadership and service development. Desirable: experience of critical care.
