Overview
Trainee Homelessness and Prevention Officer – Rugby Borough Council. Full time – 37 hours a week. Salary: £28,598 - £31,022 progressing to £32,597 - £36,363.

The role is part of the Housing Advice and Enabling Team, which supports customers with housing solutions, financial advice, liaison with landlords and the development of personalised housing plans with a focus on preventing homelessness.
About the Role
You’ll develop over a 24-month period to become a Homelessness Prevention Officer. The training includes internal, external and on-the-job learning with a solid grounding in homelessness legislation and service delivery.
While training, you’ll support the team in:
* Outreach work with those who are rough sleeping or at risk of rough sleeping, including those in hospital who require support to return home
* Providing housing options, advice and guidance to those who are homeless or threatened with homelessness with the aim of preventing homelessness at the earliest possible stage
* Administering applications from residents approaching the Council as homeless or threatened with homelessness
* Providing temporary accommodation, including private sector leased accommodation
* Determining applications to join the Council’s Housing Waiting List
About You
You should be motivated to work with the community to prevent and reduce homelessness and understand the issues facing customers in the current housing climate. An eagerness to learn is essential, as you’ll be continually training and developing knowledge and experience. This role could suit a recent graduate or someone changing career.
You’ll need an understanding of confidentiality, safe practice, safeguarding, anti-discriminatory practice and equal opportunities, along with experience delivering high-standard customer service to clients who may display challenging behaviours.
