Shape strategy and support local communities as a Governor of DN Colleges Group to help drive progress in education, finance, estates and audit.
* Location: Doncaster, Scunthorpe and Hull
* Salary: Unremunerated with reasonable expenses paid
DN Colleges Group serves a broad community of post-16 young people and adult learners across a diverse and impactful curriculum. Our current strategy reinforces the driving principles of our merger that concluded in 2017/2018. We continue to focus on retaining the distinctiveness of our Colleges and serving the needs of our local communities, while collaborating as a Group to share best practice, to continually improve the quality of our learning, teaching and assessment and to follow a strategy of growth and investment for our future.
Supporting future employment needs is a vital role for DN Colleges Group and is a key focus for the future. We know we are directing our energy and resources where needed, supporting skills infrastructure requirements across the East/West corridor, connecting our communities and reinforcing our position as an educational hub for South Yorkshire, Greater Lincolnshire and the Humber Region.
At DN Colleges Group, we work towards a common goal: transforming our communities through learning. This vision reflects our belief in our students and our ability to transform their lives positively. Our students are at the heart of everything we do.
Together, we can ensure they reach their full potential as they move forward to successful futures, contributing to their communities and our region’s social and economic needs.
Our Values: ASPIRE
This vision is supported by a set of values underpinning how we operate daily across our organisation. Core values guide our decision-making, interactions, and approach to challenges and opportunities across every team and department.
These values are a fundamental part of DN Colleges Group, as we aspire to deliver outstanding and inspirational teaching and learning for our students every day.
* Ambition: to achieve the highest standards
* Support: a caring, safe and inclusive environment
* Partnership: collaborative working to achieve shared goals
* Innovation: we use our initiative and are agile in finding creative solutions
* Responsibility: we take individual and collective responsibility
* Equality: we work with integrity and are open, honest and respectful of each other.
About the role
Our Board has a positive and collaborative culture, and our Governors are passionate about educational excellence and continuous improvement to ensure the best outcomes for all our students.
Governors are critical to the College’s success. The support and challenge they provide help shape the college’s mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives, all of which are vital to the College’s continued success.
With several independent members coming to the end of their respective terms of office by the end of this academic year, we seek to appoint new members to support our succession planning. We are looking to engage new Governors from various backgrounds with the expertise, experience, and commitment to play a vital role in shaping DN College Group’s continued success and growth.
We do have some particular areas of interest and expertise that we are keen to bring to our Board, and these are:
Audit & Risk
We seek a financially qualified professional to join our board and audit committee. We welcome all applications from those with financial experience, whether from practice or industry.
Finance & Resources
Again, we are looking for a financially qualified professional to join our board and finance and resources committee. We welcome all applications from those with financial experience, whether from practice or industry.
With an ambitious strategy and exciting regional developments that will grow our provision in the future, we are looking to engage an experienced estates and capital development professional.
Whilst previous non-executive/board-level executive experience is not necessary, it is important that you work well within the board environment and offer the appropriate challenge and support to the discussions around the table. Most importantly, you must recognise the work of the further education sector and be confident in becoming an ambassador and advocate of the college and the wider sector.
The Corporation Board meets five times per academic year onsite at either our Doncaster or Scunthorpe Campus, and committees meet three times per year, either by teams or onsite.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a group of like-minded individuals who share a passion for supporting and improving education and the community within the region.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for Governors who bring a blend of strategic thinking, leadership, and governance experience to DN Colleges Group. You should have a strong commitment to education and skills development, with the ability to analyse data, communicate effectively, and uphold the highest standards of integrity. We value your dedication to promoting equality, financial awareness, and ethical leadership. Understanding the local socio-economic landscape and relevant industries would be advantageous, as it will enhance your ability to contribute meaningfully to the college’s strategic objectives and community impact.
Peridot Partners and DN Colleges Group are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and our client expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references before any final offer can be made.
