Job Description:
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
How’s this for job satisfaction: at Scottish Water we look after Scotland's most precious natural resource.
From source to tap, we’re guarding Scotland’s reputation for refreshingly pure water, and caring for our environment at the same time.
Sound good? We’re looking for a Field Automation Specialist / Electrical & Mechanical Multiskilled Craftsperson to join our team covering Allanfearn & Inverness on a permanent basis.
If you are focused on excellent customer service with a proven Engineering (E&M) skilled background, this role is a great opportunity to develop your skills further.
What you’ll do
You'll be responsible for repairs, installations, and maintenance at Waste Water sites. Using your electrical and mechanical skills, you'll address issues for our internal team and external customers.
You will handle incident responses and planned work, ensuring operations run smoothly and cost-effectively.
Safety is a priority. You will undertake Risk Assessments to select appropriate equipment and safe working practices.
You will perform electrical craft skills, including working on 3-phase & single-phase equipment, fault finding, diagnosis, motor and generator maintenance, lighting, variable speed drives, instrumentation, calibration, and automation equipment resetting.
You will also perform mechanical tasks such as pump maintenance and removal, engine and valve repairs, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, fitting, pipe disconnections, and mechanical device maintenance.
You will set up and maintain telemetry systems, ensuring communication systems operate smoothly, and assist with software updates and hardware upgrades.
You will maintain and calibrate field instrumentation, improve telemetry data collection, and support automation tasks, including reporting on maintenance, data quality, and calibration.
You will configure and support daily user requirements for telemetry/PLC/IMCC/SCADA systems.
What you’ll need
You have completed a full apprenticeship with an HNC or NC in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience. You are proficient with systems and processes, including server setup and telemetry troubleshooting, and experienced in instrumentation calibration.
You are skilled in electrical work, mechanical maintenance, and have 17th/18th Edition training.
You are friendly, confident, and an effective communicator, capable of working independently and adapting to new computer systems.
You prioritize health and safety, possess strong problem-solving skills, and are comfortable making decisions in a fast-paced environment.
You have good knowledge of MS Office (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and a valid UK driver’s license.
Knowledge of water and wastewater processes is a bonus. Customer focus and continuous improvement mindset are valued, along with 17th/18th Edition training.
Looking out for you
We support work-life balance with 38 days of holiday, flexible working, and family-friendly policies. We also offer a pension, life assurance, annual bonus, and rewards through SW Splash.
