Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships. As well as running the iconic Glasgow Subway, SPT delivers an extensive range of public transport services including bus stations and subsidised bus services, manages large transport infrastructure projects and is responsible for delivery of a long-term multi-modal transport strategy for the west of Scotland.

We have a great opportunity to join the Health & Safety Team and for you to play a key role in ensuring the compliance with all legislative requirements across all operational departments and wider corporate areas with a particular focus on the Subway Modernisation Project and the management of contractors.
We are seeking a Health & Safety Officer who will play a key role in assisting the Health and Safety Manager in the development and implementation of the safety and risk management strategy including policies, procedures and strategies to support a robust safety management system.
About the Role
As a member of the Health & Safety Team, you will assist the department in ensuring that detailed Health and Safety audits are carried out across SPT, Accident/Incident Investigation and the production of detailed reports for Senior Management. You will assist the Health and Safety Manager in developing Bus, Subway and corporate safety initiatives ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. You will assist in provide advice on specific legislative requirements including Health & Safety at Work, Rail and Other Guided Systems (ROGS) and CDM Regulations to internal and external stakeholder groups.
About you
The successful candidate will have a NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) with relevant experience and be a member of IOSH. You will also have an Auditor qualification or equivalent experience of auditing against ISO 45001 or a similar standard. You will have knowledge and experience of current health and safety legislation and health and safety best practice with a focus on risk management within a safety critical engineering, operations or rail environment. A degree in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment or another relevant subject is seen as desirable.
You will have excellent communications skills and be able to communicate across a range of parties in writing and verbally using all available mediums. You will also have the ability to undertake health and safety inspections and assessments and the ability to keep health and safety action plans on schedule. You will be able to set and maintain high standards of work and demonstrate a drive to succeed.
A highly motivated, professional, reliable and capable individual with planning skills you will be experienced in working effectively with multi-disciplinary teams. Excellent IT skills/confidence using Microsoft Office and Microsoft SharePoint software packages, with experience of use of Microsoft Power BI also being desirable, together with the ability to multi-task and prioritise effectively are essential.
