Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our acute team at Aintree Hospital. This static post is suited to an SLT with established acute experience who is looking to further develop within a busy and supportive clinical environment.
Responsibilities
* Manage a busy and varied dysphagia caseload across a range of acute specialities.
* Deliver a well‑established FEES and Videofluoroscopy service and be involved in instrumental pathways within the wider acute service.
* Conduct speech and language therapy assessment, clinical diagnoses and implementation of agreed treatment plans for routine and complex patients across each clinical rotation.
* Provide peer support, regular supervision and training opportunities, including instrumental assessments.
* Lead service development, audit and research and participate in and lead service improvement initiatives.
* Actively support and develop other clinicians, including B5 clinicians and students.
* Provide training sessions within the wider multidisciplinary team.
* Undertake assessment of patients, using specialist clinical reasoning and assessment techniques to differentially diagnose and formulate treatment plans.
* Continually evaluate the efficacy of the treatment programme to ensure it meets patient needs.
* Monitor the effectiveness of interventions and use outcome measures.
* Work closely with the multidisciplinary team, attending meetings and case conferences to enhance quality of care.
* Ensure effective communication with patients, carers and other health care professionals.
* Help other professionals communicate with patients who have impaired language skills using alternative communication systems.
* Advise and support less experienced therapists and assistants in caseload management.
* Work closely with community staff to facilitate seamless rehabilitation service across the city.
* Carry out videofluoroscopy with senior SLT, developing skills to analyse and report findings.
* Undertake research as requested by the team leader and collect patient data and other statistics as required by the Head of Department.
* Advise the Head of Department of any changes in caseload profile that impact service planning.
* Monitor equipment and material for condition and suitability; submit orders via the Head of Department.
Qualifications
* Experience working in adult acute settings.
* Confidence in managing complex dysphagia cases.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Flexible and patient‑centred approach.
