We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant school in the St Albans area, specializing in supporting students during their music lessons. This full-time, long-term position offers an exciting opportunity to help students develop their musical talents while supporting their emotional and academic progress.
Role Overview
As a Music Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside the music teacher to support students in their musical development. Your role will involve working with individuals and small groups, helping to foster creativity, build confidence, and encourage active participation in music lessons. You will be an integral part of creating a positive and engaging learning environment where students can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide one-on-one and small-group support during music lessons, helping students engage with musical activities such as singing, instrument playing, and group projects
* Assist with the preparation of musical resources and activities, adapting them to meet students' diverse needs
* Encourage student participation and help students develop their skills and confidence in music
* Support the music teacher with lesson delivery, classroom organisation, and maintaining a calm and focused environment
* Build positive, supportive relationships with students, promoting their emotional well-being alongside their musical development
* Monitor and report on student progress in music, providing feedback where necessary
Ideal Candidate
* A genuine interest in music and its positive impact on children’s development
* Previous experience supporting children or young people in an educational setting, ideally in a creative or music-focused environment
* Patient, empathetic, and supportive, with the ability to engage children in music
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team
* A positive, proactive approach to managing behaviour and supporting students
* Understanding of safeguarding procedures and commitment to the welfare of students
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
