Summary
Ingest Operators are responsible for the ingest, quality control, and delivery of all live and non-live news content, short-form programming including Volant promotional material, and provide expert technical support to Newsroom staff on all matters related to content ingest and playout workflows. This role works closely with Transmission, MCR and Scheduling teams to ensure seamless on-air delivery and is expected to perform media management tasks to support content workflows.
Responsibilities
Content Ingest & Delivery
* Schedule and ingest all live AITV and IITV studio output using Mimir
* Clip and QC news show repeats in Adobe Premiere and deliver to TX
* Ingest, QC and deliver short content to TX including fillers, promos, buffers, bumpers and idents
* Prepare and export video and audio material for Iran and Afghanistan International staff
Media Management
* Organise and maintain media assets within the content management system
* Ensure proper file naming conventions and metadata tagging for efficient asset retrieval
* Archive and manage storage workflows to optimise system performance
* Assist with content cataloguing and version control
Quality Control & Technical Monitoring
* Conduct comprehensive quality checks on all delivered assets in Mimir and Adobe Premiere
* Monitor incoming feeds and identify technical issues promptly
* Ensure all content meets broadcast quality standards before delivery to playout
* Monitor and report to Engineering and Network Services senior staff any issues on records from IITV and AITV
Coordination & Communication
* Work closely with the Scheduling team to ensure timely content availability and delivery
* Liaise with Scheduling, TX and MCR regarding live and non-live news content workflows
* Collaborate with MCR on live recordings from various sources including satellites, galleries, agency feeds and telecommunications applications
* Communicate effectively with the transmission chain to facilitate smooth content delivery
* Support playlist preparation by ensuring content availability and flagging missing materials to Scheduling
* Provide regular updates to Scheduling on content status and any potential delivery issues
Technical Support
* Provide technical assistance to Newsroom staff on ingest-related matters
* Help troubleshoot issues within the ingest-to-transmission workflow
* Adapt quickly to changing requirements in a live broadcast environment
Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in ingest, QC, media management or satellite operations
* Strong ability to identify and report common video and audio technical issues
* Technical knowledge of video/audio hardware and software encoders, broadcast standards, file formats, codecs and wrappers
* Understanding of the ingest, MCR and transmission chain, including how content flows from ingest to on-air
* Experience with media asset management systems and content workflow organisation
* Familiarity with Adobe suite (Premiere, Media Encoder)
* Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritise accordingly
* Capability to problem-solve technical issues and escalate appropriately
* Strong adaptation to rapidly changing live broadcast environments
* Clear understanding of how broadcast infrastructure and workflows impact the wider business
* Strong communication skills for effective liaison with Scheduling and other departments
Desirable Skills & Experience
* Knowledge of Mimir newsroom software
* Experience with Baton QC or other automated QC software
* Awareness of broadcast automation playout systems and transmission technologies
* Understanding of playlist management and content scheduling for live channels
* Experience working in a live playout or MCR environment
