Job Description
Project Manager – Engineering / R&D Environment | Bedfordshire (on-site) | £55k
We’re hiring a Project Manager to join a prestigious UK centre of excellence in aerodynamic research with a heritage dating back to the 1950s. This organisation works at the cutting edge of aviation, partnering with the world’s leading civil and defence manufacturers on projects that shape the future of flight.
You’ll be based at a unique facility that includes the UK’s largest transonic wind tunnel, supporting the development of next-generation aircraft and propulsion systems. Backed by a major global defence group, the business offers the stability of a large organisation alongside the close-knit, collaborative culture of a specialist research environment.
The company is now entering an ambitious five-year transformation programme to modernise its systems, processes and ways of working — making this a particularly exciting time to join and play a key role in shaping how projects are delivered in the future.
This role sits within a central Project Management function and works closely with multi-disciplinary technical teams to deliver high-quality outcomes on time and on budget.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for managing a portfolio of technically complex projects, from initial definition through to delivery, including:
* Deliver a portfolio of complex engineering projects
* Own project scope, plans, schedules, budgets and resources
* Manage risks, assumptions and change control
* Act as the main point of contact for key stakeholders
* Support bid and proposal activity (estimates, plans, risk)
* Contribute to improving project management tools and processes
* Occasional out-of-hours work may be required (flexibility supported)
Experience & Background
* Degree (or equivalent experience) in engineering or a technical discipline
* 4+ years’ experience managing complex projects
* Experience in a design, manufacturing or technically demanding environment
* Comfortable working with engineers and technical specialists
* Commercial and customer-facing experience is a plus
Project management qualifications are beneficial but not essential if you have strong practical delivery experience.
If you’re a Project Manager who enjoys working in a technical, engineering-led environment and wants real ownership of complex programmes, this could be a great fit.
