Job Description:
NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
Applications are invited for a Part-Time Specialty Doctor position to join the Medicine for the Elderly Team in Perth and Kinross.
The Medicine for the Elderly service at Perth Royal Infirmary is undergoing change and innovation. The department includes 5 consultants, two specialty doctors, and several clinical fellows, providing comprehensive care to older patients in Perth and Kinross. Patients are assessed by the acute frailty team on admission and either discharged early or cared for in one of the service's units, including the acute inpatient unit, orthogeriatric and short stay rehab units, or the slow stream rehab unit. Care pathways into the community are managed via the Perth and Kinross HSCP community hospitals, which are under active service development.
Outpatient care includes a rapid assessment and falls service, Parkinson’s service, and other community-based services aimed at seamless integration with community teams.
The Stroke service, closely aligned with Medicine for the Elderly, provides care for 18 inpatients and maintains strong links with hyperacute stroke care at Ninewells Hospital and TIA assessment clinics.
There are opportunities for the successful applicant to rotate through various aspects of the service across inpatient and community settings.
We seek an individual with broad medical or GP experience and a keen interest in caring for older people. The candidate should be a team player, contribute to service development, and have opportunities to develop a sub-speciality interest within Medicine of the Elderly.
This role offers professional development opportunities, including the potential to pursue CESR or transition into a senior clinician role based on competencies. The position can be full-time or part-time, with optional weekend and evening work, and opportunities to contribute to medical receiving or general inpatient care.
For informal enquiries, please contact Dr. Neil Henderson, Medicine for the Elderly Clinical Lead, at 01382 660111, bleep 5144, or via email at [emailprotected].
