About Low Carbon Materials (www.lowcarbonmaterials.com)
We make carbon-negative additives for concrete and asphalt. Our products drop into existing production processes, cut carbon dramatically, and perform. Concrete alone is 8% of global emissions.
We\'re in production at a pilot facility in Seaham and moving to a purpose-built site in August — a £20m capex project involving advanced manufacturing equipment across multiple work packages.
Multi award winning including - Earthshot Prize Finalist and Blue Earth Scale Winner. Backed by grant funding, angel investors, and VC. Customers include National Highways, Tarmac, Holcim, Breedon, and Skanska. Recently selected for Amazon\'s GoBuild 2026 cohort.
Demand is outpacing production. This role exists to lead the manufacturing scale-up.
The Role
Bring your substantial experience to lead a major project in a growing company.
We need a seasoned Project Director to lead a £20M capital project that takes our proven pilot manufacturing line and scales it to a fully automated commercial operation — 30 times the capacity. This is the step that turns us from a promising scale-up into a global producer. It covers manufacturing line installation using turnkey projects with major capital equipment suppliers, building refurbishment contractor management and commissioning – before working alongside the operations team to hand over a commissioned integrated plant. You\'ve done this before, many times. You know what good looks like.
Our preference is fractional — if you\'ve got the experience and can deliver on fewer days, that works for us. That said, we\'re open to a full-time arrangement for the right person.
This is a scale-up — expect to roll your sleeves up. You\'ll work alongside our production and R&D teams, reporting to the Head of Operations. There\'s no dedicated project team waiting for you though — you\'ll be shaping the strategy and getting your hands dirty delivering it — from planning and procurement through to commissioning and handover. You\'ll work alongside our EHS Manager on site safety and CDM compliance, but day to day, this is your project to drive.
Responsibilities
* Project management of highly automated manufacturing line installations
* Building refurbishment and contractor coordination
* Tender management and contract negotiations
* Managing principal contractors and subcontractors on an active site
* Health and safety management under CDM 2015
* Handover documentation and contractor handover
* Commissioning of manufacturing and M&E systems
* Snagging and defect management
* Performance trials and handover
What You Bring
* 20+ years in project management across manufacturing and construction
* Value engineering track record
* Tender management and contract negotiation experience
* Deep knowledge of CDM 2015
* Familiarity with Planning and Building Regulations
* Commissioning experience on automated production lines
* Snagging and defect management through to close-out
* Able to deliver at pace — whether fractional or full-time
