MRS are a private Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services provider. We transport patients to and from hospitals, care homes, hospices and their own homes working in partnership with the NHS and local authorities. You will be required to drive a 3.5 tonne ambulance.
Our patients are usually older adults or people with disabilities or issues with their mobility. This may include individuals with Dementia and Mental illness, autism or learning disabilities. We care for them during their journey with us, ensuring their comfort and generally treat each person in a way that enables them to keep their dignity and independence, putting their best interests at the heart of everything we do.
You will need to be physically able to assist and support patients who have limited mobility and may be transferred from bed to stretcher, chair to wheelchair or to a carry chair to take them upstairs. Full training will be given.
You must be able to complete patient transport records for every patient conveyed as well as having responsibility for cleaning and disinfecting the ambulance in accordance with infection prevention and control.
Personal Qualities and Skills
To become an Ambulance Care Assistant, you will need:
· A full manual driving licence with less than 6 points and more than 24 months driving experience.
· The ability to get on with people from all backgrounds and be friendly and caring.
· An excellent sense of responsibility, and an open and honest personality.
· Excellent communication skills, for example, talking with patients, their families, hospital and care home staff
· Be patient, understanding, have absolute discretion and able to show empathy.
· The ability to reassure anxious patients and explain what's happening when they are confused, while being able to quickly calm people
· Be physically fit and capable to undertake the role fully.
· The ability to use a vehicle sat -nav and follow directions easily
Pay and Opportunities
The commencing hourly rate is £12.50 Night shift receive a £5.00 per shift supplement.
Hours
Shifts vary in length from 8 to 13 hours and we expect our ACA's to be flexible to complete patient journeys even if it means going beyond the normal shift end time. We work 24 hours, 365 days a year. All crews will be required to work a variety of shift patterns including some night shifts to cover holidays and sickness.
Training
There is a considerable amount of training which must be completed during your induction including safeguarding, first aid, basic life support, moving and handling and infection prevention and control. There are assessments to pass that will be discussed at interview.
After your initial training, you will work closely with an experienced crew mate to start with to mentor you as you learn your new role.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order (as amended) and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) to check for any previous criminal convictions. We will require an enhanced adults certificate for all crews.
We can complete a DBS check on your behalf at a cost of £55.40 (cost as of January 2023)

You must be able to supply a minimum of 2 referees covering the last 3 years of employment and / or training, including from your most recent employer.
Covid-19 Vaccinations
We transport a number of vulnerable adults therefore all crew members are strongly encouraged to be fully Covid-19 vaccinated and to maintain their vaccination status in line with current Government guidance.
