Data Centre Operator – Contract (12 months - Inside IR35)
📍 Location: Cardiff
🗓️ Start Date: 1st July 2025
⏳ End Date: 30th June 2026 (possible extension)
🕒 Shift Pattern: 12-hour day & night shifts (364 days/year; Christmas off)
We are seeking for a client a reliable and proactive Data Centre Operator to support the day-to-day operations of a high-availability data centre environment. This is a critical role ensuring the seamless operation of batch processing, system monitoring, and physical site management.
Key Responsibilities
* Monitor systems and event-driven alerts via monitoring consoles.
* Respond to incidents, escalating to on-call teams or vendors as required.
* Run and monitor batch schedules using tools like Control-M and VisualCron.
* Manage weekend release scripts and support change deployments.
* Perform routine physical tasks (e.g., bulk printing, tape removal, temperature checks).
* Conduct regular patrols to validate site and system availability.
* Maintain strict adherence to security and access protocols.
Additional Responsibilities
* Support the Control-M scheduling environment.
* Analyse and resolve basic production issues.
* Apply schedule changes and maintain accurate reporting (daily, weekly, ad hoc).
* Keep operational documentation up to date and compliant.
Key Skills & Experience
* Proven background in IT operations and batch processing.
* Experience with job scheduling tools, ideally Control-M.
* Familiarity with Linux/UNIX, JCL, Korn shell scripting, and basic Oracle DB concepts.
* Root cause analysis skills and a service-focused mindset.
* Ability to work independently and in small technical teams.
* Knowledge of ITIL fundamentals is a plus.
