Summarized Purpose:
We are currently hiring for a Scientist dedicated team in Stevenage to provide support with Imaging and Histology work.
The successful candidates will support ongoing laboratory research projects through hands-on experimental work, contributing to sample preparation, data generation, and analysis across multiple platforms while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.
The Imaging & Histology Support Scientist will be responsible for biological sample preparation for imaging and histological analysis, including paraffin embedding, sectioning, and slide preparation. The role will provide technical support for microscopy-based experiments and ensure accurate handling and processing of tissue samples.
Essential Functions:
1. Perform a variety of complex biological sample preparations for imaging and histological analysis
2. Prepare slides, sectioning and paraffin embedding
3. Ensure accurate handling and processing of tissue samples
4. Trains on routine operation, maintenance and theory of instrumentation, SOPs and regulatory procedures and guidelines.
5. Maintain accurate experimental records
6. Ensures QA findings are addressed appropriately.
7. Communicates project status to project leader.
8. Performs work assignments accurately, and in a timely and safe manner according to Health as Safety procedures
9. Performs self and peer review of the data for accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements prior to submission to QA and issuance to customers.
Education and Experience:
10. BSc (or equivalent) in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or a closely related discipline
11. MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualification is desirable but not essential, depending on experience
12. Demonstrated practical laboratory experience in Imaging/Histology
13. Formal training or certification in laboratory health & safety and good laboratory practice (GLP) is desirable
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
14. 2+ years of experience in sample preparation for imaging or histology
15. Hands-on experience embedding samples in paraffin, sectioning, and slide preparation
16. Familiarity with tissue processing, cutting, and basic staining techniques
17. Experience supporting microscopy workflows ( immunofluorescence or brightfield) is desirable
18. Strong attention to detail and ability to handle delicate biological samplesFamiliarity with SOPs, lab documentation, and health & safety compliance
19. Strong organisational and communication skills
20. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
21. Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
