This is an exciting opportunity to join the Cormac apprentice programme as a Civil/Structures Engineering Degree Apprentice. Whilst working for Cormac you will gain a level degree qualification and experience within the Structures team -Infrastructure structures team specializes in the design, inspection, assessment and maintenance of structural assets across Cornwall. You will be working towards becoming an Incorporated Engineer and will be expected to successfully complete an End Point Assessment and professional review with the Institution of Civil Engineers at the end of your -year apprenticeship. Cormac will provide a mentor to support your progress across the apprenticeship.

About the Role
After two years of experience in civil engineering, you will be able to provide a higher level of specialised technical support to the Structures team, civil engineers and other construction professionals.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
1. Complete the Civil Engineer Degree Apprenticeship, maintaining regular attendance and achievement levels
2. Maintain your own continuing professional development
3. Assist the Structures team by carrying out specialist technical activities related to service delivery
4. Working closely with Principal, Senior Engineers, project managers and liaising with external clients
5. Working with a team to complete specialist reports within agreed timescales
6. Liaising with other teams and external consultants, such as representatives from Environment agency, Historic England, Planning officers and others where required.
7. Attending site meetings to review works and providing specialist technical advice and guidance
8. Utilising appropriate information technology, computer aided design and geographic information services for your allocated work

We are looking for:
An individual with a strong passion for mathematics and a genuine interest in solving engineering challenges. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about understanding how structures function and eager to contribute to the development of schemes involving structural assessment, refurbishment, and design.
Our Structures Team is responsible for the inspection, assessment, maintenance, and design of a wide range of assets, including:
9. Highway bridges and retaining walls
10. Retaining walls and bridges on the public highway and public rights‑of‑way network such as the South West Coast path and multi‑user trails, including the Saints Way and the Camel Trail
11. Key infrastructure projects, such as the Newquay Strategic Route
12. Provision of structural design work at Newquay Airport
13. Specialist inspections of various structure types
14. Design and maintenance of coastal protection assets and reactive works
In addition to new design work, the team delivers structural maintenance projects, including:
15. Bridge deck waterproofing
16. Joint and bearing replacement
17. Refurbishment design and assessment
Candidates should bring curiosity, problem‑solving ability, and a desire to develop their engineering expertise.
18. Eligible to drive in the UK: driving licence or provisional driving licence and ability to achieve full driving licence within the first months, plus access to transport and a willingness to travel to sites not serviced by public transport
19. Current or predicted x A-Levels/Level at AAB / DDM or above
20. Desirable: at least A-Level/Level in a Science or construction-related qualification
21. GCSEs at Grade /C or above, including maths and English
