About the Service
Neath Port Talbot School Based Counselling Service (NPT SBCS) is a multi‑modality team of therapists comprising School‑Based Counsellors, Play Therapists and a Drama Therapist. The service is committed to helping Children and Young People (CYP) address emotional and mental health issues so they can overcome adversity, achieve their potential and lead fulfilling lives. We provide counselling and child therapy to CYP in Years 1–13 across NPT, delivering targeted support and high‑quality in‑house training to head teachers, school governors, teaching and non‑teaching staff. We also support school staff wellbeing through the School Staff Supervision Service and School Staff Counselling Service, recognising the link between staff and pupil wellbeing.
Responsibilities
* Provide direct play therapy to primary school pupils (Years 1‑6) across NPT schools.
* Deliver group work and workshops with children and young people where required.
* Run training sessions and contribute to the development of the School Based Counselling Service within the authority.
* Collaborate with staff in the Inclusion Service and take part in multi‑disciplinary consultations with schools.
* Enhance the skills of school‑based staff through support and training.
* Some work may also be undertaken outside of school hours and outside the school setting.
Qualifications
* Qualified Play Therapist with a recognised qualification approved by BAPT/PTUK or equivalent; accredited/registered with a relevant professional body.
* Successful DBS check (Enhanced Disclosure).
* Welsh language skills desirable.
* Experience working with children and young people across the primary school age group.
