Job Overview
IT Support & Development Lead role at TES FE News. This is a hands-on position to lead the school’s in-house IT provision, provide day-to-day technical support for staff and pupils, coordinate with the external IT services contractor, and work with the Bursar to plan and deliver IT projects. The role focuses on keeping IT systems safe, secure, reliable, innovative and aligned with teaching, learning and school operations.
Main duties and responsibilities
* Technical Support
o Provide first-line support for hardware, software, printing, network & Wi-Fi connectivity issues.
o Log, track and resolve IT support requests promptly.
o Escalate complex issues to the external IT services contractor and liaise to ensure resolution.
o Maintain the school’s IT equipment (desktops, laptops, tablets, projectors, printers and network devices).
o Manage user accounts, access rights and permissions in line with school policies.
o Be responsible for the external contractor who develops the website and for installing any learning platforms.
* Systems Administration
o Oversee day-to-day running of school IT systems, including servers, cloud platforms, Wi-Fi and telephony.
o Ensure data backup, security protocols, and user access procedures are followed.
o Keep asset records up to date and manage the IT inventory lifecycle.
o Install, configure and set up new equipment onto the network for pupils and staff.
o Improve the IT infrastructure, software and equipment of the school.
o Communicate effectively with all stakeholders as required.
o Ensure adequate software licenses and consumable stock are maintained.
* Development & Projects
o Develop and update written IT plans and contribute to a vision for IT within the school.
o Work with the Bursar and senior staff to identify IT needs across teaching, learning and operations.
o Project manage small-to-medium IT upgrades, initiatives and projects with contractors and suppliers.
o Contribute to planning and budgeting for IT developments.
o Stay informed about relevant technologies in education and recommend solutions to enhance digital capability.
o Develop and maintain disaster recovery procedures and test them periodically.
o Coordinate and deliver projects outlined in the school’s improvement plan.
* Compliance, Training & Safety
o Ensure IT systems comply with safeguarding, GDPR and cyber security requirements.
o Promote and support digital & online safety in collaboration with staff.
o Recommend IT strategies, policies and procedures and anticipate future IT requirements.
o Maintain records and provide accurate information for the management information system.
o Plan and deliver training to staff on equipment and platforms used in the school.
Person Specification
Essential
* HND in Computer Networking or Computer Science
* 2 - 3 years practical IT support experience (Windows Server, Office 365, Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Firewall & filtering, Email platforms, AV equipment)
* Ability to troubleshoot a wide range of hardware & software issues
* Strong organisational skills; able to balance support requests and project work
* Good communication skills; able to explain technical matters clearly to non-technical users
* Initiative and problem-solving ability
* Experience coordinating small IT projects and/or working with contractors
* A focus on delivering quality services with a love for innovation
Desirable
* Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science
* Experience of IT in a school or education environment
* Ability to work with Microsoft PowerApps & Power Automate
* Understanding of safeguarding and GDPR in a school context
* Experience coordinating medium to large IT projects with external contractors

Offer & Details
* Salary starting from £32,000, according to qualifications and experience
* Full-time, 42.5 hours per week, 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday (including a 30 minute lunch break)
* Full-time salary range £32,000 - £35,000
