Overview

Coordinate all clinics for all specialities. Coordinate minor procedure clinics adhering to NICE guidelines and theatre processes with WHO checklist guidance. Assisting with fine needle biopsies, core biopsies. Chaperoning and advocating for patients in all clinics. Assisting patients with all aspects of care while attending OPD departments.


Main duties

* The post-holder/s are responsible for direct clinical care for individual patients and groups of patients within their area of work.
* After an agreed period of time, the post holder will be designated to co-ordinate the department in the absence of the department Sister.
* The post holder is expected to supervise junior staff and be able to teach qualified and unqualified staff, including pre and post registration students.
* The post holder will be required to work in all areas as required to meet the needs of the service.
* The post holder will be required to work flexible working times including evenings and weekends. No set days will be given.
* Coordinate all clinics for all specialities.
* Coordinate minor procedure clinics adhering to NICE guidelines and theatre processes with WHO checklist guidance.
* Assisting with fine needle biopsies, core biopsies.
* Chaperoning and advocating for patients in all clinics.
* Assisting patients with all aspects of care while attending OPD departments.
* Act as a professional role model to junior staff and demonstrate leadership qualities.
* Provide expert clinical knowledge and skills within the departments.
* Work with the department manager and nursing team to develop and promote best nursing practice.
* Ensure that self and other professionals adhere to infection control best practice and policies in all aspects of clinical work. Seek advice/support as necessary from senior staff or the infection control team.
* Maintain accurate and clear documentation of all nursing care and communication with the multidisciplinary team.
* Communicate with patients and relatives in a sensitive manner, providing information regarding care and progress as required.
* Actively assist the department manager in implementing change and service developments.
* Undertake projects/link roles for the ward as designated by the department manager, disseminating information to all staff as required.
* Adhere to the outpatient local E-Rostering policy for off duty production, working flexibly to enhance teamwork and patient care. (usually 3 weeks notice).
* To acknowledge clinical limitations, seek advice appropriately, and act in a professional manner in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Practice.
* To coordinate the day to day running of clinics, assisting and supporting team members in all OPD areas.
* To be able to prepare clinical areas for clinics including clinics primarily in Chest/Ombersley house but to also be aware of other departments areas where rotation maybe required i.e. main OPD, ENT, cardiology & Oral Maxilla facial areas and have an awareness and competence of the decontamination procedures and policies.
* To be able to assist the clinicians in undertaking sterile procedures including minor procedure clinics, fine needle biopsies, core biopsies, and nasal endoscopes.
* To organise own work load and take responsibility for the maintenance of the work area.
* To be aware of the appropriate and safe storage of substances hazardous to health i.e. formalin and liquid nitrogen.
