Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced General Practitioner with a view to partnership to join our multidisciplinary team at Ridge Green Medical Centre, Swindon. The role offers flexible session patterns up to full‑time and is based in a well‑organised practice that includes nurse prescribers, minor illness clinics, nurse‑led chronic disease management, an on‑site clinical pharmacist and a social prescriber. The practice consistently achieves high QOF marks and is rated good by the CQC.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide the full range of NHS general/primary medical services to the registered patient population, temporary residents and patients presenting for immediately necessary treatment, including clinical examination, diagnosis, treatment and referral.
* Be personally accountable for professional and ethical actions and practices within a legal and ethical framework that adheres to the GMC’s requirements and local policies.
* Maintain confidentiality while communicating patient information, preserving the dignity and privacy of patients and their families.
* Work in a non‑judgemental, anti‑discriminatory manner, respecting cultural and religious beliefs.
* Ensure that informed consent or other valid authority is obtained prior to any course of action involving individuals or groups.
* Promote and maintain optimal health of the registered patient population through health‑promotional activities targeted to individuals and groups.
* Establish, develop and maintain appropriate systems for managing patients with long‑term conditions.
* Support the Performance Manager to deliver on specified performance elements relating to contracts such as the Quality Outcomes Framework and Primary Care Quality Contract.
* Ensure record‑keeping is managed through creation and maintenance of concise, contemporaneous computerised records and that all care is recorded accurately and timely.
* Interpret and explain complex facts regarding a patient’s condition, take appropriate action, and give advice in a professional manner to team members, family and other carers, protecting patient dignity.
* Hold continuing responsibility for Child Protection and Children in Need in all cases of suspected or confirmed abuse, ensuring compliance with local and national guidelines.
* Ensure concerns and potential risks are referred to the appropriate agency immediately.
* Use evidence‑based practice to develop and maintain high‑quality, clinically effective and cost‑effective primary care.
* Assess and diagnose across a wide range of primary health conditions, order investigations, plan and provide treatment as needed and discharge patients.
* Assess, tolerate and manage risk and deal with uncertainty.
* Prescribe in accordance with the local formulary and company guidance.
* Provide telephone consultations as required.
* Ensure the accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with health care and practice administration.
* Collaborate with other health professionals and agencies, liaising and communicating effectively with medical, voluntary and statutory agencies.
* Record clear and contemporaneous IT‑based consultation notes to agreed standards.
