Applications are invited for a full time Consultant in Acute Medicine to join the Emergency Department and Acute Services Care Group at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
This is the most exciting time to join BHRUT given the focus on unplanned emergency care and the resulting opportunities both clinical and non-clinical.
We are a tertiary centre for neurosciences and one of 10 national elective surgical centres. We are in the process of further expanding unplanned emergency care services including developing patient centred pathways such as OPAT and expanding our SDEC on both sites which has received a massive financial boost.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join an existing team of dynamic acute medical consultants with a variety of specialist interests. Recognising passion as resulted us in improving our performance, HEE feedback and also patient feedback. We invest in the person just as much as the service.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen's and get rid of corridor care.
Our patients are benefitting from our Women's Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and a St George's Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch.
These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 94,000 scans a year.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The job is for a 10 PA job with 7.5 DCC in clinical activity with requirements for hot week activities and 1 in 8 weekend. You will have 1.5 SPA and up to 1 SPA for specialist interest.
This is a full-time post in acute medicine working within the acute medicine department.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Full registration with GMC inclusion on the GMC specialist register for Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine or within 6 months of expected date of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or appropriate equivalent
2. Demonstrate ability to anticipate problems, analyse issues, suggest alternative solutions and make decisions
3. Understanding of current issues within Acute Medicine and future direction of speciality
Desirable criteria
4. Evidence of service improvement experience
5. Excellent networking abilities
6. Evidence of continual personal learning and development
