I’m working with an established organisation embarking on a significant, group-wide technology and change transformation. They’re now looking to appoint a Head of Products & Delivery to play a pivotal role in shaping, structuring and driving complex delivery across the business.
Due to the nature of this hire, the process will be handled confidentially. The industry and further detail will be shared upon conversation. To move forward beyond an initial discussion, you will be required to sign an NDA.
This is a genuinely senior leadership role, operating at Group level, with high visibility and real influence. It would suit someone who thrives in complex environments, enjoys operating at board level, and knows how to bring clarity, structure and pace to multi workstream delivery.
The Role in Context
As Head of Products & Delivery, you will act as a senior leader across programme, product and business analysis functions, ensuring strategic initiatives are delivered effectively, responsibly and with measurable value.
You will work closely with executive sponsors and senior stakeholders, taking ownership of major programme areas and stepping into full leadership where required.
This is not a role focused on theory or governance for governance’s sake. It is about outcomes. You will ensure delivery lands on time, within budget and at the right level of quality, while building a strong, high performing function underneath you.
You will need to be able to access a North of England office three to four days per month. There are no fixed days, flexibility is built in, but regular on site presence is important.
What You’ll Be Doing
Programme and Delivery Leadership
* Drive complex, multi workstream programme delivery, maintaining momentum and accountability across teams
* Align product and delivery activity to wider Group strategy and objectives
* Remove blockers, rebalance priorities and ensure delivery maintains pace
* Lead key governance and delivery forums with clear decisions, actions and follow through
* Embed continuous improvement across delivery practices, ways of working and team performance
* Foster a high trust, open culture where collaboration and clear communication are the norm
Governance, Controls and Assurance
* Establish and maintain robust programme governance, reporting and control frameworks
* Own oversight across risks, issues, dependencies and benefits realisation
* Prepare senior level papers and updates for boards and steering groups
* Constructively challenge plans and product roadmaps to ensure realism, sequencing and value based delivery
Planning and Dependency Management
* Manage through senior leaders to ensure plans are current, structured and transparent
* Identify and unblock cross team dependencies
* Protect outcomes by proactively addressing resource constraints and delivery risks
* Maintain clear visibility of what will be delivered, when, and the trade offs involved
Senior Stakeholder Engagement
* Build credible, trusted relationships at executive and board level
* Navigate complex stakeholder landscapes, aligning priorities and resolving conflict
* Provide evidence based recommendations to support informed decision making
* Ensure transparency of progress, risk and commercial impact
Leadership and Capability Development
* Line manage senior leaders across product and delivery
* Coach and mentor Heads of and senior stakeholders to improve delivery maturity and product thinking
* Create a high performance culture built on accountability, clarity and support
* Strengthen capability across programme, product and business analysis functions
Budget, Reporting and Commercial Oversight
* Own programme level reporting, ensuring updates are accurate, meaningful and decision ready
* Challenge delivery confidence and plan integrity where required
* Support budgeting, forecasting and effective resource utilisationIdentify efficiencies and maximise value across the portfolio
* Contribute to shaping third party contracts and delivery agreements where needed
What We’re Looking For
This role requires credibility, composure and strong judgement.
You will likely bring:
* A proven track record delivering large, complex, multi million pound programmes or portfolios
* Strong experience in software delivery environments and the realities of scaling delivery
* Confidence presenting at board level and influencing senior decision makers
* Deep understanding of governance, assurance and delivery controls
* Strong financial acumen across budgeting, forecasting and resource planning
* Extensive experience managing risks, dependencies and cross functional delivery issues end to end
* Experience leading through matrix structures, including third party suppliers and partners
* A strong grasp of Agile delivery, applying the right approach to the context
* Experience shaping value driven product roadmaps and supporting effective prioritisation
Recognised programme qualifications are welcome but not essential. What matters most is demonstrable impact at scale.
