Leeds City Museum is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Assistant Site Development Officer to support daily operations, lead front‑of‑house teams, and help keep the site running smoothly, safely and creatively. You’ll assist with staff coordination, site supervision, security and emergency procedures, and maintain the museum's high presentation standards. You’ll work closely with learning, collections and marketing teams, support commercial activity—including shop operations and venue hire—and play a key part in delivering engaging experiences for all visitors.

To support the effective delivery of all visitor service provision, to maintain the security and safety of the buildings, collections, public and staff.
Responsibilities
* Assume the responsibility of Site Supervisor in their absence including site security.
* Assist the Supervisor to coordinate the allocation of daily staffing for the site with reference to events, workshops & gallery closures; ensure adequate staffing for public operation.
* Assist recruitment, training, and motivating a team of front‑of‑house staff committed to providing outstanding customer care and sharing knowledge about the Site and Collection.
* Support strong communications with collections, learning and marketing teams to ensure front‑of‑house staff are fully informed and can participate in group visits, corporate initiatives and site developments.
* Operate an effective security regime for the site and its contents; act as one of the emergency key holders for out‑of‑hours emergencies and be part of the emergency call‑out team.
* Ensure high service standards in cleanliness; perform regular checks of public facilities (especially toilets) and re-clean as necessary.
* Day to day liaison with Property Maintenance Section and external contractors on reactive and planned maintenance issues.
* With the Commercial Services team, take day‑to‑day responsibility for the shop, its stock, display and sales; work within financial regulations.
* Coordinate arrangements for functions; liaise with clients and potential clients to maximise income generation opportunities.
* Support the work of all site staff, especially Learning and Collections teams, in delivering formal and informal learning and identifying new opportunities.
* Promote a positive image of the service; participate in activities including displays, event publicity and visitor surveys.
* Be aware of and adhere to Leeds City Council Health and Safety Policy; responsible for own health and safety and that of colleagues and customers; achieve a recognised Health & Safety qualification; carry out risk assessments and implement safe systems of work as required.

* Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade.
As an Assistant Site Development Officer you will bring to the role:
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
* Ability to deal with the public and staff in a polite, friendly and helpful manner, even in difficult circumstances.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team or alone without regular supervision.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety and Equalities legislation; UK work‑eligibility requirements.
* Ability to communicate with a wide range of people individually and in groups at all appropriate levels.
* Knowledge of good practice in visitor services; knowledge of security procedures; knowledge of safe working practices in a public building; knowledge of ICT including Microsoft Office.
* Experience in a customer facing role and implementing/following security procedures; experience in managing staff on rota.
* Flexible and adaptable; self‑motivated with ability to use own initiative; commitment to continuous professional development.
* Demonstrable interest in the work of Leeds City Council Museums & Galleries; experience in managing resources and basic object handling & care; flexible approach to working hours.
