Job Summary
The post-holder will provide consultant-level psychiatric care to patients within the Trust. This includes clinical leadership, multidisciplinary team (MDT) collaboration, and contribution to service development, education, and governance. The role requires Section 12(2) Mental Health Act approval and full GMC registration.
Clinical Sub-Specialties Covered
Depending on service needs, the post-holder may work in one or more of the following psychiatry sub-specialties within the Trust:
* General Adult Psychiatry (inpatient, community, crisis, liaison)
* Old Age Psychiatry (Psychiatry of Later Life)
* Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAMHS)
* Learning Disability Psychiatry
* Forensic Psychiatry
* Liaison Psychiatry /
* Rehabilitation Psychiatry
* Substance Misuse / Addiction Psychiatry
* Perinatal Psychiatry
* Neuropsychiatry
* Eating Disorders Psychiatry
* Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs)
Key Responsibilities
* Provide consultant-led psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
* Undertake statutory responsibilities under the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended), requiring Section 12 approval.
* Lead and support multidisciplinary teams in patient care.
* Ensure safe, high-quality, and patient-centred clinical practice.
* Contribute to service improvement, governance, and audit.
* Provide supervision and teaching for junior doctors, trainees, and MDT members.
* Participate in consultant on-call rota (where applicable).
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
* MRCPsych (or equivalent postgraduate qualification in psychiatry).
* Section 12(2) Mental Health Act approval.
* Inclusion on the Specialist Register for Psychiatry (or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview).
* Broad training and experience in psychiatry, with competence in risk assessment and crisis management.
* Evidence of leadership, service development, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
Desirable:
* Approved Clinician (AC) status under the Mental Health Act.
* Previous NHS consultant experience.
* Research, teaching, or service development portfolio.
* Sub-specialty expertise in one of the Trust's service areas.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months
Pay: £99.50-£125.00 per hour
Expected hours: 45 – 50 per week
