Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment to join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA / telemetry systems would be beneficial.
Overview
Working within the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate you will influence how we deliver our service into the future. As part of our Technical Authority, you will provide technical engineering leadership and support for safe, reliable, sustainable assets and net zero commitments.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules.
* Deliver competency and skills guidance for employees working on electrical systems and equipment.
* Support technical projects across HV and LV power systems and control systems in assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures.
* Hold a national incident response role, available during normal or out of hours.
Qualifications
* Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry / SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience developing safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of risk‑based maintenance philosophies, including Failure Mode Effects Analysis, reliability systems and processes.
* Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registration as a Chartered Engineer, or evidence of working toward registration with realistic prospect within 12 months.
Additional Information
Hybrid role with base location near your home. Travel and overnight stays may be required. Incident management objective will be included in your development plan. Appropriate training will be provided.
