Our academy ethos, 'Life in all its fullness', underlines our commitment to the education of the whole of the child, with the development of our students' character and cultural capital as important as their academic progress. Committed to the wellbeing of our students and staff alike, we pride ourselves on our duty of care to both.
Accordingly, we are looking for a well-qualified academy counsellor who will provide a professional and confidential counselling service for our academy.
Working alongside the pastoral and inclusion team, you will contribute to the holistic pastoral provision and develop a range of therapeutic interventions to encourage confidence, independence, reflection, and resilience in young people across key stages 3 to 5. The academy has had a counsellor in place for several years, so there is an existing system in place, but we welcome innovation and new ideas.
We are looking for someone that not only ticks the boxes from a qualification perspective but someone who has the qualities to build relationships with students and members of the community; to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have a positive 'can do' attitude. With such an important position within the academy, it is vital that you understand the developmental, emotional, social, and educational needs of young people and that you can form good relationships from the start.
The successful applicant will work as part of the inclusion faculty and will provide one-to-one support, leading small group sessions and supporting the wider pastoral team to deliver key aspects of the counselling service.
If appointed, the applicant will benefit from the following:
* Full support and induction;
* Excellent CPD opportunities;
* Leadership openings if appropriate;
* A strong and caring ethos among staff and students;
* Strong leadership at senior and middle levels;
* A well-being package with the academy signed up to the DfE Education Staff Wellbeing Charter;
* Networking opportunities and collaboration across the MITRE trust.
Please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification for a full breakdown of the role and responsibilities.
Please contact the SENCo, Mr Shaun Veasey, to arrange a visit or a further discussion;
For information about how to apply for this role, please read our 'Guidance notes for applicants' document which will be posted on the TES website under the job listing. For further information please contact
Closing date for applications: 12 noon on Friday 19th September
Interviews will be held: Week commencing 22nd September

About The National Church of England Academy
The National Church of England Academy
Annesley Road, Hucknall, Nottingham
Nottinghamshire
NG15 7DB
United Kingdom
National Church of England Academy is a successful, dynamic secondary academy, offering an all-round education for students. The academy began life as a small school in 1788, and has served the community of Hucknall ever since. We have developed from these humble beginnings into the successful academy that exists and thrives today.
Our aim is to provide a happy and stimulating environment in which young people can develop and grow, preparing them for life after the academy. We want all students who attend National to take their places in the world fully prepared and with a great education, as well-qualified and responsible citizens, with strong values. Our staff work very hard to ensure that all students have high aspirations and do their best to achieve their goals. We are hugely proud of the high standard of teaching and support that we offer to all students, something that is acknowledged and recognised by the quality of our Ofsted reports.
In return for the teaching and support we give to students, we expect them to work hard, behave well, and do their best. The high standards support the high levels of achievement and progress made in all areas across the academy. Our exam outcomes at GCSE and A level are above national averages and we believe that this achievement, coupled with a strong emphasis on individual personal development has enabled students to have greater opportunities and improved life chances.
We are an Anglican foundation. This does not mean that we only accept pupils from a Christian background. We welcome children of all faiths, and of none, who seek education within a framework of strong moral values
