Jackson Hogg are currently recruiting for a Health & Safety Manager to join an established organisation operating within an industrial / waste recycling environment.
The Health & Safety Manager will lead all health & safety practices and work activities in line with best practice and current legislation. Working closely with management and supervisors, the role will focus on developing a stronger understanding of safety, improving working practices, and supporting the development and engagement of frontline teams.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the creation and ongoing management of RAMS, SSOWs, SOPs, and associated procedures, as well as delivering and supporting frontline training where required. The role will also involve liaison with governing bodies, supporting audits, and strengthening the organisation’s overall approach to health & safety, fostering a culture of engagement, ownership, and positivity.
Key Responsibilities
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
* Overall responsibility for site health & safety, including near‑miss reporting, accident prevention, and risk management
* Operating in line with the company management plan and ISO 45001 objectives, ensuring the safety of employees, contractors, and visitors
* Leading health & safety performance on site and ensuring compliance with all H&S policies and procedures
* Developing, implementing, and continuously improving health & safety policies, procedures, and programmes in line with regulatory requirements and industry standards
* Conducting regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify hazards and opportunities for improvement
* Providing guidance, coaching, and support to management and employees on health & safety matters, including training and awareness initiatives
* Leading incident and accident investigations, carrying out root‑cause analysis and implementing corrective and preventative actions
* Collaborating with cross‑functional teams to embed safety considerations into business operations and projects (e.g. core machine maintenance projects)
* Maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date health & safety records and documentation, including incident reports, training records, and compliance documentation
* Keeping all documentation, reviews, and amendments current within the Safety Management System (SMS)
* Monitoring emerging legislation, regulations, and best practice, proactively incorporating updates into company processes
* Promoting a positive and proactive safety culture, encouraging open communication and employee engagement at all levels
* Undertaking any other reasonable duties required to support operational needs
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
* NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in a health & safety management role, ideally within a waste, recycling, or industrial environment
* Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation, standards, and best practice
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
* Proven ability to engage, influence, and motivate employees at all levels of the organisation
* Detail‑oriented with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and health & safety management systems/software
