Job Overview:
The Post-Production Manager is responsible for overseeing all post-production processes within the company from ingesting media to delivering a final piece. You’ll be responsible for backing up and ingesting media, making interview and b-roll selects, overseeing finishing and online, and preparing sequences to ensure the editing process runs as smoothly as possible for the editors. You will be responsible for managing all post-production staff, including editors, AEs, sound designers, colourists and other post-production professionals to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The role requires strong leadership, organisational skills, and an in-depth understanding of post-production workflows and technology.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership: Manage and lead a team of post-production staff, including freelancers. Provide
guidance, feedback, and support to ensure efficient work and high-quality output.
Content Management: Ingest and organise footage, ensuring it’s accurately labelled, stored and accessible. Prepare footage for editors by prepping timelines and creating rough cuts. Compile selects for sizzles, featurettes and string outs. Train new AEs and oversee their work to ensure they follow our workflows and have a good understanding of our systems.
Quality Control: Oversee the quality of the final product, ensuring it meets client expectations, technical specifications and industry standards before delivery to the producer or client. Implement review cycles with senior staff members for feedback and revisions.
Project Management: Oversee the post-production process from start to finish, ensuring deadlines, budgets and project goals are met. Act as the primary point of contact for all post-production- related enquiries and support the team by ensuring completion of tasks where necessary.
Scheduling & Coordination: Develop and maintain detailed post-production schedules, tracking progress and managing asset delivery. Coordinate with producers to ensure smooth workflow and timely completion.
Technical Oversight: Ensure that the latest software and hardware are used efficiently. Troubleshoot technical issues with the Technical Supervisor and ensure proper file management protocols are followed. Manage the efficient operation of post-production facilities and ensure edit suites are maintained to the highest technical and comfort standards, prioritising client satisfaction.
Client Liaison: Communicate with clients and production teams through the post-production process, providing updates and ensuring that their needs are met.
Strategy: Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in post-production, advising on best practices, tools and techniques to review and help improve workflows.
Security: Monitor changes to client security requirements and update policies as necessary.
Day-to-day Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for the ingest, prep, edit, grade, mix, online, QC and delivery for all pieces, staying across all aspects of the post-production process.
- Reviewing workflows to ensure efficiency and ensuring these procedures are followed, including but not limited to remote access, security protocols, ingesting and turning over assets.
- Ensure all raw media is backed up safely in two or more locations.
- Ensure project footage is ingested and proxies created where necessary.
- Overseeing, signing off and completing selects.
- Footage conforming and logging.
- Ensure all necessary footage is sent for transcription.
- Creating and maintaining tidy projects on the server.
- QC and review of pieces prior to export for accuracy, ensuring all requirements and specifications have been met before delivery to a producer or client.
- Take responsibility for the media management process as per the company policy.
- Overseeing archiving of company media and projects.
- Practice meticulous attention to detail to ensure a smooth post-production workflow from all standpoints.
Requirements:
- At least 2 years’ machine room experience.
- Hands-on offline and online experience is essential.
- Some supervisory experience is preferred.
- Experience working under pressure in a high-stakes environment.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Accustomed to multi-tasking and working with small teams with a muck-in attitude.
