Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at St Jamess Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary, Leeds. The post will be available immediately for a period of 6 months with extension to 12 months upon satisfactory review.

This is a new post and has been developed to address an increase in demand for the services. We want to encourage the successful candidate to develop a specialist interest within their job plan, supported by the wider Obstetric and Gynaecology team, following discussion with the department.

The post will be based at St Jamess University Hospital and the Leeds General Infirmary.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant should be a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) and should be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register for trainees if currently in a training programme within the UK, or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director.

Applicants should have established skills in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with ability to work within a busy tertiary unit. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

About us

The gynaecology service is predominantly based at St James University Hospital (Chancellor Wing), some elective gynaecology work including clinics, day case and overnight theatre and hysteroscopy also takes place at Wharfdale hospital.

The fertility service is based at Seacroft Hospital.

The maternity service is based at St James University Hospital (approximately 4,500 deliveries per year) and Leeds General Infirmary (approximately 5,200 deliveries per year).

Job responsibilities

This is a 10 PA locum appointment for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.

This post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the Obstetric and Gynaecology teams across Leeds General Infirmary and St James University Hospital.

This post has arisen as part of the expansion of Consultant staffing within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Womens Clinical Service Unit (CSU).

Person Specification

Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills

Essential

* Hold full GMC Registration with a license to practice.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.

Desirable

* Is up to date and fit to practise safely

Qualifications

Essential

* MB BS (or equivalent)
* MRCOG or equivalent qualification

Desirable

* Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD relevant to the subspecialty.

Clinical Experience and Career Progression

Essential

* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in Gynaecology
* Experience of Labour ward management at a high level and demonstrate full range of skills necessary to provide expert care in a tertiary referral obstetric unit
* Experience in independent gynaecology practice relevant to post
* Evidence of continuous career progression consistent with personal circumstances.

Desirable

* ATSM or SITM relevant to post
* Experience advanced obstetric and gynaecology skills.

Clinical, Academic, and Personal Skills

Essential

* Understanding of current issues in the NHS.
* Evidence of QI/Governance Experience/Service Improvement
* Experience of participation in regular clinical audit.
