3 Months Contract with a Local Authority
Job Purpose
* To provide strategic and operational leadership to a statutory Children’s Assessment Team, ensuring high-quality, timely, and effective responses to children and families in need. The role involves direct line management of Assistant Team Managers and oversight of social workers, with a focus on safeguarding, risk management, and supporting children to remain safely within their families and communities wherever possible.
Key Duties/Accountabilities
* Provide direct line management and supervision to 2x Assistant Team Managers (ATMs), ensuring compliance with the council’s supervision policy.
* Oversee the work of a team of 6 Social Workers through the ATMs, ensuring high standards of practice, performance, and case management.
* Lead and support the team in completing statutory assessments, including Section 47 enquiries, Assessments for Care and Support, and Child Protection Conferences.
* Make autonomous decisions in complex Child Protection matters, supporting the team in managing risk and safeguarding children.
Essential Experience Required
* Extensive post-qualification experience as a Social Worker in frontline Children and Families teams.
* Proven experience in managing or supervising a statutory social work team, ideally within an assessment or safeguarding context.
* Strong understanding of child protection legislation, statutory assessments, and court processes.
* Demonstrated ability to make sound, autonomous decisions in high-risk situations.
Essential Qualification Required
* Degree in Social Work or equivalent recognised qualification.
* Registration with Social Care Wales (or relevant regulatory body).
Additional information to note
* Working hours: 37.50 hours per week.

Requirements
You will be a Social Worker with extensive experience working in front line children and families teams and have had direct overall line management for a statutory social work team and ideally within an assessment team. You will be expected to provide direct line management overall to the team that consists of 2x Assistant Team Managers and 6 Social Workers, you will be directly responsible for providing regular supervision to the 2x Assistant Team Managers as per Carmarthenshire supervision policy, the 2x ATM’s provide the case supervision and personal supervision to the Social Workers within the team. We are looking for somebody who is able and confident to make decisions relating to Child Protection matters, be able to use autonomy in these decisions and support the team to manage risk. We want every child/young person to be able to remain at home, where safe to do so with their family and naturally connected people and you will be at the forefront of supporting the team to do so. We are looking for a Team Manager who is familiar with the work of an assessment team which consists of ensuring the team complete section 47 assessments/inquires and Assessment for Care and Support and where needed Child Protection Case conference. Equally, be familiar with court related matters as the team at times are also involved in private law matters, issuing of care proceedings and or starting a PLO process as a hand over to our longer-term teams to continue to support families.
